Comparative study between fuels show the advantages of the electric car, but also the challenges that Brazil will have to face
A comparative study between electric cars, powered by gasoline and those powered by ethanol, carried out by Marcelo Gauto, our partner here at Click Petrรณleo e Gรกs, demonstrates how much we need to evolve in relation to the use of electric cars in Brazil.
See data collected by Marcelo Gauto and see what the country needs to do to align with the new world trend. Petrol and Diesel vehicles will not enter Amsterdam from 2030 onwards.
If we take into account the prices practiced today by the market, in November 2018, to travel the same distance, Brazilian drivers with electric cars will spend on average 52,9% than cars fueling gasoline and 49,3% than those fueling Ethanol.

The challenges to be faced
BATTERIES: Batteries need to be smaller, weigh less, charge faster and last longer on a single charge (cell phones have gone through this). They need to last longer despite continuous charges and recharges. The cost needs to come down substantially as well.
INFRASTRUCTURE: a large fleet of electric cars will need a network of charging stations, both urban and rural, to ensure convenience and reliability. The electrical power network needs to support several cars recharging at the same time, in the same region.
Due to the challenges, I believe that internal combustion vehicles will still have ample space in the market for decades, but they will not reign alone as electric vehicles are here to stay, since they are more efficient in the use of energy.
The PDE 2016-2026 predicts that by 2026 electric cars will still be less than 1% of the vehicle fleet.
The PDE (Decennial Energy Expansion Plan) is an informative document aimed at society as a whole, with an indication, and not determination, of the prospects for future expansion of the energy sector from the Government's perspective in the ten-year horizon. The document is prepared by EPE (Empresa de Pesquisa Energรฉtica), an agency linked to the MME.
