Mayor of Angra dos Reis asks Bolsonaro to speed up work on the Angra 3 Nuclear Power Plant

Fernando Jordão, Mayor of the city of Angra dos Reis, says that the work on the Angra 3 Nuclear Power Plant needs to be accelerated. The resumption of works will create thousands of jobs and may promote the economic development of cities in the region, develop new businesses and create more jobs.

For this, Jordão wrote a letter directly to President Jair Bolsonaro, to increase tourism on the green coast of Rio de Janeiro, asking for faster investments in the work. See the letter below.

"Mr. President,

Greeting you cordially, I come hereby with the aim of respectfully requesting cooperation in efforts to resume work on Angra 3. As is well known, the pandemic of the new coronavirus – COVID-19, causes unprecedented economic damage throughout the world and in Brazil is no different. We follow and share Your Excellency's concern regarding the dismantling of our economy.

In this way any action that generates jobs will have national priority. At this point, the resumption of the Angra 3 nuclear power plant will be an effective measure capable of generating 5 thousand direct jobs and more than 20 thousand indirect jobs. The works have been paralyzed since the corruption scandals. However, the fact is that the new management of Eletronuclear, built a program in partnership with technicians from BNDES, capable of justifying the necessary investments that will be amortized with the sale of the generation of electric energy produced by the Central Nuclear Almirante Álvaro Alberto.

In addition, the entry into operation of Angra 3 will provide energy security for the resumption of economic growth in Brazil. With that question in mind, we sincerely request the adoption of the necessary measures for the resumption of work on Angra 3, since it will be able to generate jobs, heating up the economy, in addition to guaranteeing economic growth in Brazil.

In the certainty that our claims will be duly appreciated and put into practice, we cordially say goodbye.

Respectfully, Fernando Antonio Ceciliano Jordan – Mayor of Angra dos Reis
