Eletrobras Communiqué on Angra 3
Eletrobras made public a statement about what will be carried out by Eletronuclear during the works at the Angra 3 plant. Among them are the electromechanical assembly, which also includes the closing of the containment steel sphere, in addition to installing pool of used fuels, the polar bridge and the semi-gantry crane. Along with this, the company also stated that “Among the main measures included in the Critical Path Acceleration Plan is the conclusion of the concrete superstructure of the Angra 3 reactor building.”
Eletrobras also stated in another statement that it will also carry out another tender to hire the company or consortium that will be responsible for finalizing the civil works and assembling the plant's electromechanics.
According to Bento Albuquerque, Minister of Mines and Energy, the conclusion of the works that will be resumed by Eletronuclear is scheduled for 2026. The construction works of the Angra 3 plant started in 1984 and had been stopped for six years.
According to data shown by CNN at the beginning of this month, Eletronuclear expects that the completion of the works on the plant will require R$ 17 billion – an amount that can be updated by the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), responsible for preparing the public notice for the new bid.
Eletrobras also informed that the work on Angra 3 is 65% completed and, up to now, investments of R$ 7,8 billion have already been necessary. The dates on which the works will be restarted by Eletronuclear have not yet been announced.
Currently, Brazil has two nuclear power plants operating, both located in Angra dos Reis, on the Costa Verde, in Rio de Janeiro. The Angra 1 and Angra 2 plants are responsible for generating 1,1% of the energy of the Brazilian Interconnected System (SIN).
