Anatel granted Elon Musk's Starlink the right to operate in the national territory until 2027. With this, the billionaire's company will be able to provide internet via satellite to the country
This Friday (28) the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) granted Starlink the right to explore a non-geostationary low-orbit foreign satellite, a satellite system owned by SpaceX, owned by businessman Elon Musk. Thus, Starlink will be able to provide internet via satellite throughout the national territory. The exploitation right lasts for 5 years, that is, until 2027. Anatel decided only 5 years due to possible unforeseen impacts
Emmanoel Campelo, adviser to the president, points out that it is in the interest of Starlink, of Elon Musk, to provide internet access via satellite for customers distributed throughout the Brazilian territory, which will certainly bring great benefits to schools, hospitals, among other establishments located in remote and rural areas. The arrival of internet via satellite in Brazil could change the whole concept of connectivity that we know today.
Anatel evaluated the possibility of granting the exploration right until the year 2033, but decided to reduce it to 2027 due to the “pioneer nature” of Elon Musk's venture and possible unforeseen impacts.

Government plans to bring internet via satellite to the Amazon region
The granting of exploration rights to Starlink was a wish of the Federal Government. Fábio Faria, Minister of Communications, met in November last year with Elon Musk to discuss a possible partnership with the Government.
The Government's intention is to use equipment from Musk's companies to bring high-speed satellite internet to the Amazon region, connecting schools, indigenous communities, health units in remote areas, where fiber optic internet is more difficult to reach.
Starlink's technology could also be used, according to the Ministry of Communications, to preserve the Amazon rainforest by monitoring illegal deforestation and fires via satellite.
SpaceX takes Brazilian satellite into space
Elon Musk's Space X took the first satellite created by a Brazilian startup into space through Falcon 9 this January. The PION-BR1, developed by PION Labs, was launched into space on the 10th of this month, in Florida, USA.
The satellite took 7 months to be ready in the company's laboratory, which is located in the city of São Caetano do Sul (SP). The satellite's main functions will be to study the capacity for long-distance communication, providing greater experience to the sector in the country.
The project is considered a peak satellite, which can also be named pocketCube. It is a satellite that has only 125 cubic cm and weighs about 180 grams.
