Embraer decides to take a step forward by investing in the future with its new Electric Taxi

Embraer revealed this week the first images of the test carried out with an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) prototype aircraft. The "flying car" does not yet have an official name. It aims to provide individual transportation for people in the big city, as an alternative to traditional air taxis.

The prototype is being developed by Eve, a sector designated for urban mobility created by Embraer X

For safety reasons, Embraer's flying car is remotely controlled and does not yet have the capacity to carry people. The next steps involve advancing the development of control surfaces, software and propulsion.

Embraer's Electric Taxi prototype has ten propellers driven by electric motors and may have two additional rotors to improve performance on so-called cruise flights. Even so, the flying car should have an appearance inspired by small remote control helicopters and maintain a “futuristic” style.

Eve's expectation is that the Electric Taxi will work completely autonomously and offer a service similar to that of Ubers. Passengers could order the air taxi by cell phone.

The future of flying cars is closer than you think

Leaving our country a little, in September last year, at the Beijing Motor Show, the electric vehicle startup showed the first of a series of flying cars that are under development and are expected to be marketed in 2022 in Chinese territory.

Like Hyundai Elevate's flying car prototype, the Xpeng model is far from looking like a car. He looks like a small helicopter, or a giant drone.

The vehicle can reach up to 25 meters of flight and can park vertically. In addition, it comes equipped with autopilot.
