Glencore is now preparing its mine with 100% of its fleet electrified, one of the first in the mining industry worldwide, and has acquired 23 pieces of equipment from the company Epiroc to guarantee state-of-the-art technology in the new venture.

The company Glencore is advancing strongly in its mine mining project with 100% of the fleet electrified, one of the first in this segment across the world market. The company purchased a total of 23 battery powered equipment from the company Epiroc for use in the new mining plant. In this way, not only will there be more environmental efficiency, but also more automation and quality assurance in nickel exploration.

Mine project with electrified Glencore fleet will feature Epiroc battery mining equipment for more sustainability in operation

The company Epiroc recently announced a significant new partnership in the global mining industry with a focus on sustainability, a contract to supply equipment and machinery to Glencore.

The company is developing a mine with an electrified fleet and Epiroc is being responsible for supplying most of the essential machines for the development of automation and sustainability in the clean mining project.

Glencore is in full swing with the development of a new nickel and copper mine in Ontario, Canada, expected to start operating in 2024, and is now betting on a new segment of mining, the electrification of operations.

This is because the mine will be one of the first with 100% of the fleet electrified, with 23 pieces of equipment from Epiroc contributing to this. Among the battery equipment supplied by the company, Glencore's electrified fleet includes Scooptram loaders, Minetruck trucks, Boomer face drills, Boltec and Cabletec bolted drills and Simba drills.

In addition, all Glencore mine equipment will be equipped with Epiroc's Rig Control System technology, making it ready for automation and remote control. The mining company will then be able to have more efficiency and control of its operations, minimizing the environmental impacts of nickel and copper exploration in the sector.

Furthermore, the systems will also allow for the integration of machine functionalities to ensure more efficiency and a strong increase in daily productivity, reducing cost and operating time in the sustainable mine.

Company celebrates partnership with Glencore to supply equipment for the electrified fleet of the copper and nickel mine and foresees expansion in the market

Executive Helena Hedblom, president and CEO of Epiroc, commented on the new partnership with Glencore and said that the company is making a big leap in the world mining market with the new contract. In addition, she highlighted that the company is excited to secure its state-of-the-art battery equipment technology to contribute to the mining company's sustainability plan in its project.

Peter Xavier, Vice President of Integrated Nickel Operations at Glencore, commented on the future of sustainable mining and the mine's prospects and said, “Epiroc scored highly on safety, design and testing of the entire battery system. . Epiroc also offers large capacity batteries, uses a standard CCS charging protocol, has a battery exchange system, and the designs are universal and compatible. In addition, the batteries have built-in cooling and safety systems.”

Among the benefits of using an electrified fleet are the elimination of emissions in operations, reduction of noise pollution and cost reduction. So Glencore is now investing not only in sustainability, but also in logistics and production improvements for its nickel and copper mine.
