The Norwegian oil company Equinor and the Chinese Sinochem received, this Friday, a preliminary license from Ibama for Phase 2 of the expansion of the production system of the Peregrino oil field, in the Campos basin - RJ.

This Friday, July 5th, Ibama issued the preliminary license for phase 2 of the Peregrino field production system, operated by Equinor in deep waters of the Campos Basin. The installation of the third fixed platform should increase the field's production by 270 million recoverable barrels.

The project provides for the installation of a third fixed platform for drilling new wells, expanding production from the deposit by around 270 million barrels, in recoverable reserves, added Ibama.

Also planned is the installation of a stretch of gas pipeline that will supply gas to the enterprise for power generation, reducing diesel consumption and atmospheric emissions, according to Ibama.

Equinor is the operator of the Peregrino field, with 60%, while Sinochem owns 40%. The development of phase 2 of the field has an estimated investment of US$3,5 billion, with production starting estimated for the end of 2020, according to information on the Norwegian company's website.

The asset is the largest field operated by Equinor outside Europe, with a production capacity of 100 barrels per day (bpd), according to the company.

Equinor wants to put gas in the domestic market

The Norwegian company is studying the installation of an FPSO for the production of gas and condensate in the area of exploratory block BM-C-33, where the Pão de Açúcar discovery is located, in deep waters of the Campos Basin. The company's initial studies point to a production unit with the capacity to produce between 16 and 20 million m³/day of natural gas, with 8 to 12 risers. The first gas could be produced, depending on other factors, from 2026.

The company is also licensing two FPSO-type platforms to produce oil and gas in Carcará, in the Santos Basin pre-salt layer. The first production unit, with a capacity for 220 barrels per day of oil and 15 million m³/day of natural gas, will be the largest in the country and should start operating in July 2024.

The second platform, which may represent a second phase of development for Carcará, is still under study by the consortium led by Equinor.
