Significant progress in the Santos Basin
TotalEnergies, one of the leaders in the energy sector, celebrates an important milestone with the start of production of the second phase of development of the Mero Field. Located in the Libra block, more than 180 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Campo de Mero is a crucial point in the pre-salt area of the Santos Basin. The second phase, known as “Mero 2”, promises to be a watershed in the Brazilian oil sector, reinforcing Brazil's strategic position in the global energy market.
Innovation and sustainability in Mero 2
Mero Phase 2 includes the FPSO Sepetiba, a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading unit, designed to produce 180.000 barrels of oil per day. The FPSO stands out for its commitment to sustainability: it was designed to operate without routine burning, thus minimizing greenhouse gas emissions. This is achieved by reinjecting associated gas back into the reservoir, a practice that underlines TotalEnergies' commitment to responsible environmental practices.
With the completion of Mero 2, the total production capacity of the Mero field will reach 410.000 barrels per day. In addition, two more phases, Mero 3 and Mero 4, are under construction, each with an additional capacity of 180.000 barrels per day, bringing TotalEnergies' share of the field's production to more than 100.000 barrels per day.
