The advancement of energy infrastructure connects regions and leverages clean resources
From April onwards, the Northeast region of Brazil will witness a qualitative leap in its capacity to renewable energy transmission, thanks to the completion of significant projects in the states of Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte. These projects, emerging from Transmission Auction No. 02 of 2018, are key pieces for strengthening the National Interconnected System (SIN), allowing a substantial increase in the amount of clean and sustainable energy that can be shared between the Northeast and Southeast regions. /Central-West of the country.
These infrastructure improvements reflect Brazil's commitment to improving energy security and environmental sustainability. As the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, stated, last year was marked by transmission auctions that resulted in R$37,4 billion in investments and the addition of 6,1 km of new lines. For 2024, more auctions are planned, with investment promises exceeding R$22 billion.
Strategic connections for a sustainable future
The new transmission lines, which will begin operating between April and June, will interconnect important substations in both states, totaling 480 km in length with capacities of 230 kV and 500 kV. The newly built substations have a combined transformation capacity of 3.100 MVA, representing a considerable advance in the national energy infrastructure.

According to the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL), the inclusion of these lines in the SIN will not only increase the capacity to flow renewable energy, but will also reinforce the country's energy integration. This development is crucial to maximizing the use of photovoltaic and wind power plants in the region, especially during the upcoming wind season, which runs from June to November.
Magnified impact on energy transfer
The National Electric System Operator (ONS) highlights that the incorporation of new lines and substations will significantly increase the energy export capacity from the Northeast to the Southeast/Central-West and North regions. With the completion of these works, the energy transfer capacity from the Northeast to the North will reach 6.200 MW, while for the Southeast/Central-West, the value will be 7.200 MW. Potential energy exports from the Northeast could reach up to 12.500 MW.
This expansion in the capacity of power transmission It is an important milestone for Brazil, highlighting the country's commitment to the diversification of its energy matrix and sustainable development. Increasing infrastructure for the flow of renewable energy not only supports reducing the environmental impact of human activities, but also ensures a more stable and secure foundation for the country's energy future.
