Rio Grande do Sul is going through a complicated period due to the rains that are ravaging the state. According to the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper, despite this, the federal government provided aid from Uruguay.
According to the website, the federal government provided equipment that could be used to rescue flood victims in Rio Grande do Sul.
This equipment included speedboats, a transport plane and drones to assist in the actions. This aid proposal came after Eduardo Leite, governor of Rio Grande do Sul, asked Uruguay for help.
However, the federal government published a note this Wednesday (08) stating that “due to its characteristics, it would not be suitable for the type of operation required and the available airport infrastructure”.

“Considering that there is already an aircraft in operation in Rio Grande do Sul from the Brazilian fleet with the same functionality as the one offered, the conclusion was that there was no need for this type of aircraft”, says the statement.
The information was revealed by the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo. According to the newspaper mentioned, a member of the state government said that this was a joint decision taken with the federal government.
A member of the Uruguayan government highlighted that the offer was actually made and refused. This person, however, assured that the decline did not generate any type of problem in the relationship and was understood.
Help from Uruguay
According to Folha de S.Paulo, the government of Uruguay offered items such as two motorized boats, with crews and two drones to search for people. In addition, operational personnel and a Lockheed KC-130 transport plane were also offered – this would be used to carry equipment and donations.
This was not Uruguay's first show of intent to help. Previously, the government of the neighboring country offered to loan a rescue helicopter. This time, the help was accepted, and the aircraft is already in operation in Rio Grande do Sul.
