Former Minister of Mines and Energy predicts 120% expansion in solar energy production in Brazil

Bento Albuquerque expects that, by the year 2031, solar energy will be responsible for 17% of all electricity generated in Brazil

According to Bento Albuquerque, former Minister of Mines and Energy, photovoltaic solar energy should, by the end of 2031, be responsible for around 17% of the electricity matrix produced in Brazil.

According to Canal Solar, Albuquerque also stated that the value corresponds to a growth of 120% in a nine-year period, since, currently, solar energy concerns 7,7% of all electrical energy generated here. .

In addition, the former minister pointed out that, in the last year, Brazil ranked fourth among countries in the world in terms of expansion of distributed generation, behind only countries such as United States, China and India. In a seminar held by ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), Albuquerque declared that, in his view, the country is very well positioned.

The term “distributed generation” refers to the form of energy production carried out by consumers themselves, as occurs, for example, in homes or companies that have panels for the generation of solar energy.

During the ANEEL seminar, the executive also assured that, in June, there will be another concession auction for the construction of power transmission lines and installations. Thus, 13 lots will be auctioned, located in 13 states in Brazil, and the expectation is to receive R$ 15,3 billion in investments, with the installation of 4,5 km of transmission lines.

On other occasions, Bento Albuquerque has also expressed optimistic sentiments regarding the solar energy sector. In October last year, for example, the former minister said he believed that, by the end of the decade, Brazil could reach 13% of its energy matrix fueled by solar energy.

This comment was made during the opening of Proenergia 2021, in which he also stated that Brazil would invest resources in renewable sources for the coming years in order to reduce the country's dependence on hydroelectric plants from 61% to 49%, by 2030.

High electricity bill causes the search for alternative energy sources to increase in Brazil, with a strong increase in solar energy production

Eight states in Brazil have recently undergone readjustments in the electricity bill approved by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), namely: Pernambuco, Bahia, Sergipe, Alagoas, Rio Grande do Norte, Ceará, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul. The additions are a reason for distress for consumers, who are now looking for other energy alternatives, such as solar energy, in order to save on their expenses.
In the state of Pernambuco, the electricity bill increased by 18,97% for low voltage consumers. The other seven affected states, in turn, also had their electricity bill increased at rates of 18% to 25%.
In this way, the increase in expenses with the electricity bill made many Brazilians look for alternative means of energy, which favored the expansion of other energy sources.

The president of the Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy (Absolar), Rodrigo Sauaia, stated that the solar source is currently increasingly sought after by consumers due to the fact that it is more economical to produce energy from the sun than to buy it from other companies.
