The president of Sindipetro stated that the fuel stations in Brazil are still hostages of the distributors for the calculation of the amounts charged. The constant readjustments in product prices end up impacting the transfer to the final consumer.
On Friday, (27/01), the president of the Paraíba Petroleum Derivatives Retail Trade Union (Sindipetro), Omar Hamad, commented on the new readjustments in fuel prices in Brazil. He highlighted that the country's gas stations are still hostages of the amounts charged by distributors. The reduction in prices takes time to reach the pumps, thus impacting the lives of millions of Brazilian consumers. The body's dissatisfaction comes at a time after Petrobras' readjustment in the price of gasoline.
Petrobras raises gasoline prices at refineries for the first time since June 2022
After months without announcing a new increase in gasoline prices throughout Brazil, Petrobras carried out a readjustment and increased the value of a liter of fuel in recent days.
The product went from R$ 3,08 to R$ 3,31, a significant increase of 7,46% compared to the amounts previously charged.

The last adjustment made to the value of gasoline was in December 2022, when the state-owned company reduced the price of a liter by 6,1% in Brazilian refineries.
The last time Petrobras raised gasoline prices in Brazil was in June 2022, when it raised prices by 5,18%.
Now, the market is seeing an even higher price charged at fuel refineries in Brazil.
As a result, several trade union bodies began to pronounce on the impacts of readjustments at gas stations in the country.
Sindipetro highlights the lack of autonomy of fuel stations to charge product prices and warns of dependence on distributors
The president of the Petroleum Derivatives Retail Trade Union of Paraíba (Sindipetro), Omar Hamad, commented on the scenario of high fuel prices at gas stations in the state.
He pointed out that the gas stations are still hostages of the distributors of the products for charging adequate amounts to consumers.
“We even took this situation to the Procons. Who sets pump price are the distributors, because the stations have limited stock. The price reduction takes time to reach the pumps, because the distributors take a lifetime to lower”, said the specialist.
The demonstration of dissatisfaction with the current market situation took place after Petrobras increased the average selling price of gasoline to distributors from R$ 3,08 to R$ 3,31 per liter, an increase of R$ 0,23 per liter .
Sindipetro reinforces that the increase in gasoline prices is consistent with Petrobras' current price policy, which considers the international market.
However, the decision ends up also having an impact on the final consumer, since the service stations may suffer from increases in values.
The current situation of dependence on prices charged by distributors for transfers at fuel stations is still worrying, warns Sindipetro.
