The executive pointed out that the next president of Petrobras needs to be aware of the oil sector and understand the segment in order to manage the company. Haddad still foresees the revision of the fuel price policy of the state-owned company to adapt to the market.

Last Wednesday (14/12), former presidential candidate and future Finance Minister Fernando Haddad held an interview and commented on the future of some segments of the country. According to the executive, managing Petrobras is one of his main concerns. He stated that the company's next president needs to understand oil in order to command it. In addition to highlighting a review of the fuel price policy as one of its objectives for the Lula Government.

Fernando Haddad highlights the need for a president with knowledge about oil and fuels to lead Petrobras in the next term

Petrobras' management throughout 2022 has been heavily criticized by industry experts.

The Bolsonaro government made constant changes in the presidency of the state-owned company, in addition to placing representatives of the interests of the national private market, who have no knowledge of the oil sector, in charge.

Thus, after the election of the future president Lula, the segment's representatives began to debate the next steps for the state-owned company in Brazil.

In an interview given last Wednesday (14/12), the future Minister of Finance, Haddad, commented on this problem and stated that the next president of Petrobras needs to be someone who understands oil and other fuels.

Asked about the name of Senator Jean Paul Prates (PT-RN) during an interview with GloboNews, the PT even replied that he "understands the sector", being a good option for the command of the company.

The future minister also highlighted that, as soon as the name of the next president of the state company is announced by Lula, he will be the first to hold a meeting to discuss prices, projects and the future of the fuel sector.

As for Petrobras' pricing policy, Haddad said he will study new alternatives to adapt fuel prices to the national and international market. But without directly impacting the final consumer.

“Smoothing is standard practice,” Haddad commented. Adding that fuel prices are important in the country, due to Brazil's dependence on the road network. “Let's see the president of Petrobras that Lula chooses. You can be sure that the first thing I'm going to do is sit down with him”, concluded the executive.

Futuro Minister commented on the future of investments in PPP projects and said that they are the future of infrastructure projects for Brazil

In addition to commenting on Petrobras' fuel pricing policy and its presidency, the Minister of Finance went beyond the oil sector.

He defended the adoption of projects with investments in Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) to raise infrastructure in Brazil and enable improvements throughout the country.

“There is a huge set of sustainable projects that can be granted to the private sector: airport concession, road concession, (everything) adopting principles such as low tariffs”, he said.

He also cited China as a great example of using PPPs to boost infrastructure and quality of life in the country.

In Brazil, PPPs have enabled huge public contribution projects, such as Prouni, which offers scholarships to students across the country.

In this way, he not only intends to align the interests of the people with Petrobras. It is also looking for new ways to increase the quality of life in Brazil.
