A transformative infrastructure
With the aim of expanding the supply of natural gas and increasing the competitiveness of economy catarinense, the Serra Catarinense Project is not just about the gas pipeline.
SCGÁS announced that it plans to invest around R$107 million by the end of 2024 to further expand the distribution network, with the addition of 91 kilometers to the system.
This ambitious plan includes the creation of jobs in the construction and maintenance areas, directly boosting the labor market and offering a new source of energy for various sectors of the economy.
Currently, Santa Catarina ranks third in Brazil in terms of the length of its natural gas network, with 1.600 kilometers of pipelines and more than 28 thousand consumers served..
The expectation is that the new gas pipeline will connect at least 195 more industries by 2029, in addition to gas stations and commercial establishments that will be able to benefit from this new infrastructure.
With the expansion of the network, SCGÁS projects that around 350 new commercial businesses will also join the distribution network, helping to diversify the regional economy and consolidate natural gas as an accessible and strategic energy source.
Benefits that go beyond savings
In addition to strengthening the local economy, the new Serra Catarinense gas pipeline stands out for promoting the use of natural gas, which is known to be a cleaner source of energy.
With combustion that emits less carbon dioxide compared to other fossil fuels, natural gas helps reduce the carbon footprint and aligns with global sustainability and energy efficiency goals.
As highlighted by SCGÁS CEO Otmar Müller, the expansion of natural gas not only contributes to economic growth, but also reinforces the state's commitment to sustainable development and environmental preservation.
A leap into the future of gas infrastructure in Santa Catarina
The Serra Catarinense Project, which took more than a decade to complete, reflects the state's commitment to the interiorization of natural gas and socioeconomic development.
According to director Otmar Müller, SCGÁS believes that the gas pipeline is just the first step towards transforming Serra Catarinense into a true industrial hub, attracting investments and stimulating job creation.
With a robust and growing gas network, Santa Catarina is prepared to receive more industries, strengthening its position on the national scene as one of the most competitive states in terms of energy infrastructure.
However, many people ask themselves: Could natural gas really transform the economy of Serra Catarinense? For many experts, the answer is a clear “yes.”
The economic and environmental benefits make natural gas a promising alternative for the region, and with the expansion planned for the coming years, SCGÁS intends to continue investing in the expansion of its infrastructure and in promoting natural gas as an effective and sustainable energy solution.
