After Petrobras lowered the price of gasoline consecutively at refineries, fuel plummeted and can be found at R$ 4,58 in São Paulo
After Petrobras consecutively lowered the price of gasoline at refineries and for resellers, the average price of fuel became cheaper than that of diesel, showing a drop of more than 9,16% in the first half of August compared to the month of July. Ethanol followed the same path and can be found for R$3,21 at service stations in São Paulo.
The decline is the result of the reduction of ICMS and PIS/Cofins by the states, in addition to the reduction in the sale price of fuel for refineries by Petrobras, an effect of the drop in Brent oil prices, currently quoted below US$ 100.

Refueling with ethanol is only advantageous in Mato Grosso
With the sharp drop in the price of gasoline, ethanol is no longer advantageous in most of the country. In the first half of August, the only state where fueling up with ethanol was worthwhile was Mato Grosso – the average value of fuel in the period was R$ 4,011.
Remembering that the method used in this analysis, discounting factors such as individual autonomy of each vehicle, indicates that, to compensate for filling the tank with ethanol, the liter value must be less than 70% of the price of gasoline.
