The production of clean energy through distributed generation has been gaining ground in Brazil. The southern region, for example, is one of the regions that has evolved the most in this type of generation. Data from the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) reveal that more than 4GW of energy are produced by the states of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, the latter being the leader in the region with more than 2 GW produced.

And it is in the midst of all this growth potential that the 18th edition of the Regional Forum on Distributed Generation in the southern region (Forum GD Sul) takes place in April. The event is confirmed for the 26th and 27th of the month, as well as taking place for the first time in a mall, with the event space at Barra Shopping Sul, in Porto Alegre, being chosen.

It is worth highlighting that according to the Brazilian Association of Distributed Generation (ABGD), which promotes the Forum, the state of Rio Grande do Sul is now the third to surpass the mark of 2 GW of capacity in own generation of electric energy. In addition, the state of Rio Grande do Sul also highlights the number of consumer units benefited by this type of generation. Currently, RS has more than 233 UCS, surpassing even the leading state in the segment, which is Minas Gerais.

Guilherme Chrispim, president of ABGD, reinforces that the energy modality is one of the fastest growing in Brazil and new milestones are being reached as in Rio Grande do Sul.

“GD has been consolidated over the last few years, especially in 2022, as the fastest growing energy modality in Brazil. It is important to start the year reaching new milestones and expanding the power in distributed generation and the number of UC's, as in Rio Grande do Sul. The state has been growing considerably and, without a doubt, will evolve even more in 2023”, evaluates the specialist.

He also comments that in just over a year, the region has doubled its own power generation capacity, going from 1 GW in December 2021 to 2 GW in February 2023.

“In the coming years, increasing the diversification of sources used in distributed generation will be one of the challenges for the sector. We need to make better use of the possibilities in biomass and urban solid waste” explains Chrispim.

Also commenting on the subject is Tiago Fraga, CEO of the FRG Mídias & Eventos Group, the organizer of the GD Forum – South Region. He explains that the South Region GD Forum returns to the city where the first forum was created and now Rio Grande do Sul is one of the biggest highlights of the sector.

“The eighteenth edition of the GD Forum returns to its beginning. The first edition of the forum in 2018 was in the city of Porto Alegre. The first regional event to speak regionally about the themes, demands and opportunities was held in Rio Grande do Sul. So, even after all these years, Rio Grande do Sul is one of the great highlights, they are there in third or fourth place. The first 5 states in terms of connection, or in terms of installed potential, Rio Grande do Sul has become in all these years, having hosted the first edition of the Forum, as one of the protagonists of the Distributed Generation in the country", reinforces Fraga.

The specialist also concludes by reinforcing that the GD Forum intends to help to accentuate even more the sector's growth curve in the region. More information about the event, as well as registration and schedule can be accessed directly on the official website www.forumgdsul.com.br
