The incidents are being investigated by the companies. The first incident occurred on Sunday (7) and left a turbine on fire, emitting black smoke. The other happened on Monday (8) and involved the fall of a wind turbine from the top of the tower.
In a note, the multinational General Electric said that there was a record of “an incident” at the Rei dos Ventos wind farm. "Nobody was hurt. We are working closely with the park owner and authorities to ensure safety in the impacted area and identify the root cause of the incident.”

According to AES Brasil, two wind turbines were affected, but it also stressed that there were no victims and no material damage to third parties. “In the interests of people's safety, as soon as the first occurrence was identified, circulation in the area where the equipment is located was controlled and the machines at the Rei dos Ventos 3 park were turned off,” he explained, without going into details.
AES Brasil acquired the Rei dos Ventos wind farm in 2020, in a transaction that also included other wind assets that belonged to J. Malucelli and involves up to R$ 650 million.
Images circulating on the internet show that one of the equipment suffered a fire, while part of another turbine collapsed from the top of the tower where it was mounted. The authenticity of the photos was confirmed by Reuters with two sources.
The plant in Rio Grande do Norte, uses wind turbines manufactured by the French Alstom, whose energy division had a merger with General Electric.
General Electric and AES Brasil investigate the incident
AES Brasil informed that “it is working together with specialized advisors in order to identify the causes of the incident and guarantee the normality of the situation”. The wind power plant in question has been in operation since 2014. The case is not the first registered in Brazil involving problems with General Electric's wind machines.
In 2019, there were cases of damaged equipment that needed to be stopped in at least one Omega Geração wind farm in Maranhão and in an Echoenergia plant in Pernambuco. That year, the company also faced records of collapses of wind machines in the EUA.
In Brazil, AES has sought to accelerate the expansion of its business, focusing mainly on wind and solar power plants. General Electric, on the other hand, is one of the largest suppliers of the country's wind energy sector, where it has supplied and installed thousands of turbines.
