Young people are abandoning the IT sector, despite the high salaries offered. Although the technology area is increasingly promising, it has failed to attract Generation Z. Understand the reasons behind this trend.

Salaries in the Information Technology (IT) area, which were already attractive, continue to rise, reflecting the high demand for qualified professionals. However, the Generation Z, made up of young people born between 1997 and 2012, is demonstrating a significant change in attitude. Instead of looking for opportunities in IT, many are opting for other sectors, such as healthcare. Check out the reasons behind this surprising trend and what it means for the future of the job market. If you've been following the changing career preferences of young people, read on to understand what's behind this flight from the IT sector.

Young people leave the IT sector: Google and Amazon face a drop in ranking

The situation was highlighted by a study by the National Society of High School Scholars, which heard more than 10 thousand young people. Large technology companies, such as Google and Amazon, fell in the student preference rankings. Google, which was once at the top, is in seventh and Amazon is in eighth.

O study carried out in the USA pointed out that the main areas of professional interest include medicine and health care. The main interest of Gen Z youth is work in large companies in the healthcare segment.

Experts explain that the study indicates a trend for Brazil. For the master and doctor in communication, Dado Schneider, speaker and scholar on generation Z, the pandemic was a big reason why young people leave the IT sector.

Given Schneider highlights that: “When this generation began to work, global confinement emerged, and many began to take classes in confinement, and did not have that classic academic life. They started the internship online, they didn't have an initiation the way they had in the past. They were born in a technological context, which does not make them as enchanted by technology as previous generations" pointed out the expert.

Young people from Generation Z have a more negative view of artificial intelligence

The advisor to the Brazilian Association of Human Resources, Cosme Peres, explained that the study also showed that Generation Z has a more negative view of artificial intelligence. The IT director of Gi Group Holding, José Roberto Paim Neto, recalls that, in Brazil, considering all generations, historically the health area is most sought after and the search for courses in the IT area continues to increase.

In Brazil, young people leave the IT sector and 43,7% of companies suffer “a little” or “to a large extent” to find professionals with advanced digital skills. The data comes from a survey by Gi Group Holding, in partnership with the Italian technological university Politécnico di Milano, and the data intelligence company Intelig Data Management.

The expectation is that there will be a greater search by companies in the coming years for specialists in Digital Marketing and Strategy (40%), Specialists in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (35%), Information Security Analyst (35%), among others .

Young people leave the IT sector and salaries are 82% higher

With generation Z leaving technology aside, there are more vacancies than qualified professionals to work in them. In this way, companies offer salaries up to 82% higher than medium and low technology companies. The data was released by National Trade Confederation (CNI).

Those who work in medium-low technology companies, according to the Federation's survey, have an average salary of R$3.238,14. In high technology the value rises to R$ 5.901,31.

The president of the Labor Relations Council of the Federation of State Industries (Consurt), Fernando Otávio Campos, explains that technology professionals are those who develop, operate and manage high-tech equipment, which is more sophisticated, including automation advanced, artificial intelligence, for example.
