Gerdau intends to invest R$200 million in its homeland, Rio Grande do Sul. The amount will be used for the modernization of its plant in the state, thus creating more than 400 jobs.

Gerdau announced that it intends to apply new investments in the order of R$ 200 million in its plant in Rio Grande do Sul, more precisely in Sapucaia do Sul, for the modernization and renovation of its melt shop. The modernization of the unit promises to generate around 400 new jobs. One of the largest investments in the plant's history takes place in the year the unit celebrates its 65th anniversary and reinforces Gerdau's commitment to the state where it was founded.

The investments, in addition to creating several jobs, aim to update the melt shop facilities, improve safety and environmental conditions in the steel manufacturing process, install improvements in the journey of digital transformation and industry 4.0 and also modernize the dedusting system .

Gerdau estimates that 400 new direct and indirect jobs will be generated during the execution of the investments. According to Gerdau's vice-president, Marcos Faraco, investments in the plant in Rio Grande do Sul demonstrate the importance of the state for the company's business and renew its ties.

The company is focused on the long-term sustainability of the unit, preparing it to continue meeting the future demand for steel from its customers throughout Brazil.

Activities at the plant in Rio Grande do Sul will be interrupted during the modernization works

The activities in the melt shop at the Riograndense Unit will be interrupted next month, with a return expected for the beginning of next year, after the conclusion of the planned renovations and investments.

Service to the market will remain unchanged, as the unit's laminate operations will be supplied by semi-finished products produced at other Gerdau units throughout Brazil.

Generating jobs for 1.200 employees, the unit in Rio Grande do Sul has a crude steel production capacity of 450 tons and 495 tons of finished products per year, including rebar, bars, drawn wire, wire rod and nails.
