Active in the Brazilian natural gas market, Golar Power is eyeing the internalization of BioGNL and opens the largest Public Call for the purchase of 5 million m³/day of biomethane
Golar Power, one of the most active companies in the process of opening the Brazilian natural gas market, launches an unprecedented public call to purchase 5 million cubic meters per day (m3 /day) of biomethane – the largest contract of its kind in the country. The interest comes soon after the company's president, Eduardo Antonello, having become the target of investigations by Lava-Jato for suspicions of corruption at the time he worked at Seadrill.

The company claims that if successful, the biogas contracting project could more than triple biomethane production in Brazil. The unprecedented call of its kind in the country is part of Golar's project for the distribution of liquefied biomethane gas (BioGNL) on a small scale by road and cabotage, via iso-containers.
The Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) currently acquired by Golar Power comes through the LNG import terminals, by land route from Argentina. With the so-called biomethane, there will be the possibility of producing BioGNL, which can be used in the automotive market and also in industry and commerce.

Potential suppliers for Golar would be the sugarcane industry in the Southeast and animal protein in the South, in addition to sanitary landfills. The call could be a safety signal for investors interested in large-scale biomethane production. Already, the possible consumers of BioGNL are the agroindustry and the ceramics market, intensive in energy use.
The official launch of the public notice will be announced in a webinar on the morning of this day (01), at 10:30 am, and will have the participation of the International Center for Renewable Energies (CIBiogás) and the Brazilian Biogas Association (ABiogás) and with the participation of BR Distribuidora and Alliance GNLog. Golar Power projects in Brazil
Currently, Golar Power is in dispute over the lease of Petrobras' LNG terminal in Bahia. The state-owned company, however, informed that it is reviewing Golar's integrity analysis and the company's participation in the bidding may be suspended.
In addition to the dispute over Petrobras' LNG terminal in Bahia, the company is negotiating a partnership with BR Distribuidora to sell LNG at retail. The agreement provides that BR will buy up to 50% of Golar Distribuidora, but, after the disclosure of the investigations into the Laca-Jato operation, Petrobras sent a question to BR, where it is a shareholder, about the potential partnership.
Golar Power is one of the main players in the LNG market in Brazil. In partnership with EBrasil, through Celse, the company inaugurated this year the first private regasification terminal in the country, in Sergipe, in a project integrated with a thermoelectric plant. The company has plans for three more terminals of this type in the country, in Baía de Babitonga (SC), Barcarena (PA) and Porto de Suape (PE).
