The natural gas time
Natural gas and Brazil

Owner of the first private natural gas terminal in the country, the company wants to use its own ships to transport LNG along the Brazilian coast

Golar Power, a joint venture between the Norwegian company Golar LNG and the Stonepeak fund, has plans to enter the Brazilian cabotage. The company that is working to complete the first private liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in the country, in Sergipe, the venture is scheduled for January 2020.
The joint venture is looking for customers who want to distribute the natural gas it will produce, both by road to the interior of the country, and by cabotage (navigation between Brazilian ports).

To this end, Golar Power already has the construction of its first LNG transport vessel already in the final construction phase, although the vessel still does not have a secured contract.
The company hopes that the first contract for the use of the ship will be made in Brazil, but does not rule out looking for customers in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Golar Power's planning, in terms of cabotage, is to use small ships to transport cargo from tankers to other regasification terminals on the Brazilian coast.

Petrobras is currently responsible for operating three terminals (CE, BA and RJ), but in terms of private terminals, we only have the Golar project on the coast of Sergipe and a new LNG terminal that is being built by the private sector in Porto do Açu, in São João da Barra (RJ), by Gás Natural Açu (GNA), formed by Prumo Logística, BP and Siemens.

Golar Power's plans for Brazil

The Sergipe LNG terminal is being built in Barra dos Coqueiros (SE) and is being prepared to receive large tankers, which will supply the thermoelectric plant of Centrais Elétricas de Sergipe (Session) with an installed capacity of 1,5 megawatts, a gigantic joint venture venture between Golar Power and EBrasil.

The enterprise even received the FSRU in the Port of Sergipe in February of this year and it has already received a support system from NOV.

Golar Power has other projects for Brazil, such as the construction of new LNG terminals in São Francisco do Sul (SC) and Barcarena (PA).
The company still wants to participate in new energy auctions, such as the A-6 auction, in October, in which the company entered a project in Barcarena (609 megawatts) and two more in Sergipe, one of 1.200 MW and one of 600 MW.
