Federal government signs decree that revolutionizes the lives of drivers at Detran in Rio de Janeiro, eliminating the need for notary offices to transfer vehicles.
From now on, drivers in Rio de Janeiro can say goodbye to notary offices when transferring ownership of their vehicles. With a decree from the federal government and Detran of RJ, the process, which was previously bureaucratic and time-consuming, can now be done entirely online, quickly and safely. This change promises to make life easier for drivers, who can now benefit from the new measure since May 3, 2022.
O DMV of RJ introduced the possibility of transferring vehicles directly through the Digital Transit Wallet (CDT) application. This tool is available to those who purchased cars from January 4, 2021 onwards and already have the digital document. The process is simple: the seller accesses the app, enters the buyer's CPF and signs digitally. The buyer receives the notification and also signs through the app, completing the transfer without having to leave home.
Detran do RJ wants to improve service to drivers
Adolfo Konder, president of DMV of RJ, highlighted that this measure is part of the ongoing effort of the agency to improve service to drivers.”Now, authorization for transfers between individuals can be done 100% digitally. Detran/RJ's adoption of the Digital Driver's License tool is part of our goal to improve the quality of service provided to citizens.“He said.

The states that already offer this service include Acre, Ceará, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, Roraima, Mato Grosso and Sergipe.
Drivers away from the bureaucracy of notary offices
For drivers who were accustomed to the bureaucracy of the notary offices, this change brings enormous relief. Now, with just a few clicks, it is possible to transfer vehicles safely and efficiently, all via your smartphone.
