Google, in its quest for greener energy, makes the largest investment in renewable energy in corporate history.
Google Chief Executive Sundar Pichai unveiled plans for the biggest renewable energy deal in corporate history, saying the clean energy deal will include 18 separate deals to supply Google with electricity from wind and solar projects around the world. New wind farm in Bahia is one of Neoenergia's recent investments.
The search engine's green energy portfolio will increase by 40%, giving the company access to an extra 1,6 gigawatts of clean energy - the equivalent capacity of one million solar roofs, the company said.
Google said it became the first company of its size to combine 100% of its electricity use with renewable energy sources in 2017 after purchasing more than 7 billion kilowatt hours of electricity. It matched the feat again last year and hopes to hit the target in 2019 as well. Once the most recent agreements are signed, Google's supply contracts with renewable energy developers will total 5,5GW.

The company has become the largest corporate buyer of renewable electricity, matching the huge energy demand of its global operations and data centers with electricity generated by renewable energy projects.
Pichai said the latest deal package "will spur the construction of more than $2 billion in new energy infrastructure," including millions of solar panels and hundreds of wind turbines across three continents.
“We are not buying energy from existing wind and solar farms, but we are making long-term purchase commitments that result in the development of new projects”, he said.
Bringing renewable energy into the grids where we consume power is a critical component of pursuing 24×7 carbon-free energy for all of our operations,” added Pichai.
Nearly half of Google's new renewable energy investments will be made in Europe, including projects in Finland, Sweden, Belgium and Denmark. The deal also includes investments in the states of North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas, as well as a smaller contract in South America to power a Google data center in Chile.
