The announcement was made during a meeting between the Minister of Mines and Energy and representatives of the government of Angra dos Reis, the foundation of the shipyard workers and the president of Eletronuclear

The Minister of Mines and Energy, Admiral Bento Costa Lima Leite de Albuquerque Junior, received yesterday morning (03/06), in Rio de Janeiro, the mayor of Angra dos Reis, the president of Eletronuclear and a delegation from the foundation of workers at the Verolme (now Brasfels) shipyard.
The delegation from Angra went to the minister to discuss actions aimed at reviving shipbuilding in the city, which once had 12 workers and today has just 800 employees carrying out repair works.

Another subject addressed was the resumption of works on Angra 3, which involves defining the current investment model, in which the government seeks to attract a partner to finish the works, and for this discussion the president of Eletronuclear, the sea-and-war captain of the reserve Leonam dos Santos Guimarães, was also present at the meeting.

The delegation from Angra dos Reis left the meeting very hopeful with what they heard from the minister. According to Bento Costa, the three auctions that will take place this year, the pre-salt and onerous assignment, will double Brazil's oil reserves and will demand the construction of 20 FPSOs with an investment of R$ 1,5 trillion in the sector.

The minister also stated that the construction of FPSO's will revitalize the economy of the municipality and the country.

“Companies can already prepare for these constructions in 2020. The national shipyards and the offshore industry will be naturally reheated, generating jobs and resources to better remunerate workers”, declared the minister.

mayor's invitation

The mayor of Angra dos Reis, Fernando Jordão, asked the minister to send an invitation to President Jair Bolsonaro, to extend his visit to the Angra nuclear power plant, to the Brasfels shipyard,
“We have the best metallurgical workforce in Brazil and we need to go back to generating jobs to overcome the crisis once and for all. We are optimistic with this proposal from the federal government for the Naval sector”, said Jordão.

Another subject discussed between the mayor and the minister was the licensing of the Vacuum Storage Unit (UAV) to hold nuclear waste from the Angra 1 and 2 plants.
The mayor requested, as a form of compensation to the municipality, that the federal government release the investment of R$ 5 million for the restructuring of the health units of Parque Mambucaba and Frade, with the consent of the president of Eletronuclear.

The mayor also asked for the release of 20% of the liabilities of Angra 3, amounting to around R$ 230 million, for the municipality to invest in the sanitation of Praia do Anil and in the network for capturing and distributing water, in Parque Mambucaba .
In relation to this request, the minister decided to speak with the president of Eletronuclear, who was present at the meeting.
