Works on the Fortaleza Ring Road begin with major investment in the restoration of lanes, paving cycle paths and construction of accesses.

Last Friday, (23/08), Governor Elmano de Freitas signed the service order for the beginning of artworks expansion and recovery of the Fortaleza Ring Road. With a total investment of R$97 million, the initiative aims to improve the road infrastructure essential for the movement of people and goods in the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza.

Investment details

O investment It is the result of an agreement signed at the end of 2023 between the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Cities, and the Government of the State of Ceará, through the Superintendency of Public Works (SOP).

The total value of the investment is made up of federal resources of around R$80,5 million and a state counterpart of R$16,5 million.

Therefore, the main objective of the works is to provide a more efficient connection between the main federal roads in the region, such as BR-116, BR-020 and BR-222, and facilitate the transport of goods between the ports of Pecém and Mucuripe. .

Governor Elmano de Freitas highlighted the importance of the Ring Road for the movement of goods and the daily lives of citizens in the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza.

“The work is crucial to guarantee the comfort and safety of Ceará residents,” said Elmano.

Description of services at works

The investment for artworks on the Fortaleza Ring Road include a series of improvements along a 32,30 km stretch.

Among the services planned are the completion of the restoration of 6,2 km of the main lanes of CE-010, the paving of 21,2 km of shoulder and 6,1 km of safety lane, in addition to the paving of 28,7 km of cycle paths.

Also planned are the construction of loops at the intersections with CE-060 and CE-065, the construction of access to the Nova Metrópole Complex, and the implementation of nine returns along the stretch, including drainage and signaling systems.

Impact of works on the community

For residents of the region, such as craftsman Delbus Andrade, who travels the Ring Road daily for his work, the investment for the works and future improvements are highly anticipated.

Andrade, who lives in Pacatuba and travels to the Ceará Supply Center in Maracanaú to collect recyclable materials, commented: “We have been waiting for these improvements for a long time. Especially those who ride bicycles, because there have been many accidents. I believe it will improve a lot.”

Partnership and history

The agreement that made the investment it had the collaboration of the Ministry of Transport, which transferred resources to the Ministry of Cities.

Governor Elmano de Freitas explained that there was an impasse between 2016 and 2022, when responsibility for the work was transferred from the Federal Government to the State, resulting in a significant delay.

Only with the return of President Lula and the support of ministers Renan Filho (Transport) and Jader Filho (Cities) was it possible to resume and conclude the agreement.

Eduardo Praça, special advisor to the Ministry of Transport, mentioned other structural works for the region, such as the duplication of BR-222, which is scheduled to be completed later this year.

“The duplication will complement the Ring Road, connecting the Port of Pecém to the Port of Mucuripe”, he highlighted.

The Superintendent of Public Works, Valdeci Rebouças, also commented on the importance of investment for local development. “The completion of the works is essential for the security and economic growth of the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza”, he concluded.
