Nuclear power plant: Angra 1, Angra 2 and Angra 3
The first Brazilian nuclear power plant – Angra 1 came into operation in 1985, while Angra 2 began operating commercially in 2001.
The Angra 3 nuclear power plant will become the third plant of the Central Nuclear Almirante Álvaro Alberto (CNAAA). The expectation is that in commercial operation, the new unit will have a power of 1.405 megawatts, that is, enough energy to supply the cities of Brasília and Belo Horizonte during the same period.
Government endorsement for the resumption of work on the Angra 3 nuclear power plant
The resolution signed by Guedes suggests that the plant's construction plan continue with the coordination of a new Interministerial Committee made up of the Ministry of Economy, the Institutional Security Office (GSI) and the Ministry of Mines and Energy. The act establishes a period of 180 days – extendable for an equal period from August 7, 2020 – for carrying out new committee work.
In addition, the minister recommends that President Jair Bolsonaro pass the competence of the CPPI project to the CNPE.
The Angra 3 Thermonuclear Power Plant is an Eletrobras asset and, according to Guedes' act, the implementation of the model for enabling the continuity of the work will depend on the “approval of its competent decision-making bodies”.
