With the growth of the pulp industry, a previously forgotten highway became a bottleneck for the flow of heavy cargo. The government has finally announced a recovery plan.
Mato Grosso do Sul is about to take a crucial step towards improving its logistics infrastructure.
A highway that was previously little used has become essential for the flow of products from key sectors.
However, with the significant increase in heavy truck traffic, the road deteriorated rapidly.

Now, the state government promises a major intervention that could transform this reality.
Work will be released by March
A Agesul (Mato Grosso do Sul Enterprise Agency) completed the project and intends to launch, by March, the bidding for the recovery of a section of the MS-377.
A highway, which connects the BR-262 to the city of Inocência, plays a fundamental role in the agribusiness and pulp industry logistics.
Strategic role of MS-377 in the economy
In recent years, the flow of heavy vehicles has increased rapidly, driven mainly by Suzano and Arauco, two giants in the cellulose sector.
The road became the main transport route for ore, building materials and eucalyptus logs.
Furthermore, the arrival of new developments has reinforced the need for infrastructure improvements.
Priority section of recovery
Although the complete restructuring of MS-377 is not foreseen, the state government announced that 50 kilometers of highway will be restored.
This excerpt comprises the access to the city of Inocência until the junction with MS-320, precisely the area that houses the new industrial unit of Arauco.
Currently, the company's work is in the construction phase. landscaping, with construction scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025.
Logistics infrastructure and regional growth
The installation of the Suzano logistics center in the region was another factor that drastically increased movement on the MS-377.
The company invested in the construction of a storage and shipping terminal for the cellulose produced, using the railway network of Ferronorte for transport to the Port of Santos.
Previously, the drainage was done by western mesh, but the deactivation of the tracks forced companies to adapt their routes.
Parallel works and new investments
In addition to recovering the highway, the state government has already started construction of a aerodrome in the region, an investment of R $ million 3,1.
The aim is to improve mobility and meet the growing demand of the industrial and business sector.
At the same time, new private enterprises are emerging near the city's access junction, consolidating local economic growth.
Project details and investments
Agesul has not yet released the exact value of the work on MS-377, but preliminary information indicates that the project will include asphalt recovery and implementation of third lanes to make traffic flow more smoothly.
Heavy truck traffic has already compromised the quality of the road, which today presents several bumpy and poor condition sections.
Other investments in road network of the state are foreseen.
The government formalized a loan of R$ 2,3 billion with BNDES, intended for works in 818 kilometers of highways, being 569 kilometers for new paving and 249 kilometers for repairing existing roads.
Environmental and sustainable impacts
With the growth of industrial and logistics activity in the region, experts warn of the need for sustainable planning.
Increased traffic can generate environmental impacts, such as noise pollution and gas emissions.
Companies like Suzano and Arauco already adopt measures to reduce their environmental impact, but the need for efficient and sustainable road planning is becoming increasingly evident.
Challenges for the future
Investment in infrastructure is seen as positive, but experts consider that 50km recovery may not be enough to meet the growth in demand.
With the advancement of the cellulose sector and the intensification of agro-industrial production, a continuous plan for maintenance and expansion of the road network will be necessary.
Is infrastructure a bottleneck for growth?
Given the exponential growth of the cellulose sector and the growing demand for adequate infrastructure, the question remains: Will current investments be sufficient to keep up with the region's economic expansion? Leave your opinion in the comments!
