The São Paulo government opened applications this Friday (14) to hire over 40 teachers on a temporary basis for the state education network.

According to the notice, the vacancies are for 2025, and interested parties can apply register by July 12th on the Vunesp website.

These temporary professionals are generally hired through a streamlined process, that is, without the need for skills assessment.

This differs from what happens with effective teachers, which need to be approved in a public tender.

In an interview with the “G1” portal, education experts warned of the risks of this type of hiring, which has even registered an increase in recent years, largely due to the expansion of the workload, full-time education and the new secondary education.

For these experts, hiring temporary teachers generates professional instability and harms the quality of teaching.

In an interview with the aforementioned portal, João Batista Silva dos Santos, a specialist in public education, highlighted that goal 18 of the National Education Plan establishes that, at most, 10% of teachers must be hired temporarily.

“The teacher who works on a temporary basis is left out of the career plan, which is an achievement for public servants and details all the labor rights of the profession”, he pointed out.

In a note, the State Department of Education reported that the entire teaching staff is made up of contracted and permanent teachers, who have the necessary skills and abilities to teach.

São Paulo has more temporary teachers than permanent ones. According to data released by the NGO Todos pela Educação, in April this year, São Paulo registered, in its state teaching staff, a greater number of temporary teachers than permanent teachers.

In total, there were 162.935 teachers, of which 82.685 were temporary, 69.980 were permanent and 10.253 were hired under the CLT regime.

Last year, in December, almost 10 thousand teachers were fired and around 6 thousand were rehired in February this year.

At the time, the State Department of Education reported that, under the current administration, it hired more than 15 thousand permanent teachers to reduce the number of temporary teachers.

Regarding the dismissal and rehiring of these professionals, the Secretariat explained that, after three years working in the state network, the teacher needs to wait 40 days to sign a new contract.
