The work had been paralyzed a few years ago due to financial inconsistencies between the Government of Pernambuco and the Dutch company. The dredging work project at the Port of Suape can now be resumed and completed in the coming months.

Recently, the Government of Pernambuco took a big step towards the future of the state's port market. The debt with the Dutch company Royal Van Oord of BRL 340 million was fully settled and an amount of BRL 140 million will be allocated to resumption and finalization of the project for the dredging work at the Port of Suape. The development was paralyzed a few years ago and will now bring strong benefits to the handling of loads in the complex.

Paralyzed since 2013, dredging work at the Port of Suape will be resumed by the Government of Pernambuco and completed within 5 months

The Porto de Suape dredging project, paralyzed since 2013 by the state authority of Pernambuco, will now be resumed after the debt with the Dutch company Royal Van Oord is settled.

The Government of Pernambuco is earmarking a total contribution of R$ 480 million for the resumption and completion of the project, which should take place within a period of 3 to 5 months.

The intervention, paralyzed since 2013, will be carried out using a state-of-the-art dredger, allowing the removal of sediments and rocks.

The debt of R$ 340 million owed by the Government of Pernambuco to the State of the Netherlands has been fully settled, while the R$ 140 million will be allocated to resuming the dredging work at the Port of Suape.

Royal Van Oord was the executing company of the project that was on the side of the State of the Netherlands with an open process for compensation by the Brazilian State.

Now, with the payment of the millionaire debt and the forecast for completion of the project in up to 5 months, the company and the foreign country have withdrawn the accusations against the Government of Pernambuco.

In executing the new dredging project at the Port of Suape, the Dutch company will use a new technology that does not require explosions for demolition, reducing the effects on the environment.

In this way, the project will not only be resumed, but will also have more environmental commitment on the part of the Government of Pernambuco.

Completion of the dredging work project at the Port of Suape will open great doors for port developments in the state, says Government

Governor Paulo Câmara commented on the positive effects and consequences that the dredging work at the Port of Suape will bring to the state in the future, highlighting the possibility of new business in the complex.

“This work was a liability and needed to be resolved. Suape will reach this level with a depth to make a difference in the operation of the Refinery and in other activities such as iron ore that will have a new terminal, the work of Maersk, providing full operating conditions. It is an important achievement in light of everything we have seen happen in the economy in recent years, ”he commented.

The director-president of the Suape Industrial Port Complex, Roberto Gusmão, revealed that they are only waiting for authorization from the Port Authority to start the project, and that it should continue this month.

Finally, Royal Van Oord's Brazil director, Erick Aeck, pointed out that the dredging work should level the port draft by 20 meters, thus ensuring the possibility of even larger ships carrying out cargo handling operations in the Pernambuco complex.
