Government of Roraima intends to zero ICMS on cooking gas in 2022
The government of Roraima will submit a proposal to the National Council for Finance Policy (Confaz) for the ICMS on cooking gas to be zeroed from 2022, taking into account that only the body has the power to authorize the exemption or reduction of the tax .
According to Marcos Jorge, State Treasury Secretary, the proposal will be taken together with that of the state of Rondônia, which is also interested in zeroing the ICMS on cooking gas. According to Jorge, the tax reduction and even the exemption, if approved, will result in a strong impact on the Roraima government's revenues, but surveys and previous studies have already been carried out so that the state can deal with tax losses.
The secretary also justifies that, precisely because of this great social impact, the State Government is preparing this reduction. According to Jorge's words, there will be a strong financial impact for the government, but precise measures are already being adopted to overcome this loss, under the terms of the Fiscal Responsibility Law.
Governments of other states are interested in reducing ICMS on other products
In addition to the high growth under the value of cooking gas, gasoline was one of the products that also had a big rise in recent months, reaching R$ 7 reais per liter in some regions. The government of RJ, to help consumers, is trying to negotiate a reduction in ICMS so that fuel prices will fall.
Governor Cláudio Castro asks other sectors that impact the value of the product to consumers to also contribute. With the highest ICMS in Brazil, RJ keeps 34% of the amount paid by final consumers for fuel.
According to Castro, the tax is equivalent to 15% of the collection of the State of RJ and there is no possibility that the government will be able to eliminate the entire tax. If taxes are zeroed, the price of fuels such as gasoline, CNG and Ethanol may be reduced by almost half.
