With an innovative strategy, the government will launch a maintenance program to transform 10 thousand kilometers of highways by 2027, ensuring quality and road safety.

Paraná is preparing for a revolution in its road network.

With a maintenance program that aims to transform 10 thousand kilometers of state highways, the state seeks to ensure greater safety and quality for drivers.

The Highway Maintenance and Conservation Program (ProMAC) is the new commitment of the Paraná Highway Department (DER/PR), which hopes to complete the project by 2027.

As explained by Fernando Furiatti, CEO of DER/PR, ProMAC will transform the quality of the pavement on all highways served, raising them to new standards of excellence.

“We will ensure that all roads are in excellent or good quality condition”, says Furiatti, highlighting the ambition of the project.

Structure and innovations on highways

ProMAC provides for accontracting of services in 40 highway lots, and to ensure efficiency, the program will use a new methodology for pre-qualifying companies.

According to Alexandre Castro Fernandes, Director of Operations at DER/PR, the focus is to select companies that demonstrate technical and financial capacity, following strict criteria of the new Bidding Law (14.133).

Furthermore, the search for the best cost-benefit will be one of the pillars of the program, ensuring that public resources are applied advantageously.

Pavement maintenance and safety

Using modern paving techniques such as milling and microsurfacing, ProMAC is not limited to the asphalt surface.

The project also covers safety services that address specific problems such as cracks and splits., which compromise trafficability.

This ongoing maintenance effort aims to resolve problems before they cause major impacts, ensuring the fluidity of traffic in all regions of Paraná.

ProFaixa Program and conservation notice

Another complementary initiative is the ProFaixa program, which focuses on maintaining areas adjacent to highways, such as cleaning signs and pruning vegetation.

This project is already in the pre-qualification phase, and qualification proposals are expected to be received from October 22, 2024.

These actions are essential to ensure visibility and safety on the roads, as well as to prevent accidents.

ProMAC Reissue: An Improved Program

ProMAC, which was initially launched last year, was improved following recommendations from the Court of Auditors of the State of Paraná (TCE-PR).

According to DER/PR, the court had pointed out inconsistencies in the budget spreadsheet of the previous project, which led to the review and correction of possible flaws.

As a result, the new notice complies with all legal requirements, paving the way for the efficient execution of the proposed improvements.

Economic and social impact of the program in Paraná

In addition to bringing direct benefits to drivers, ProMAC promises to boost the local economy. By modernizing the transportation infrastructure, the government facilitates the flow of products and access to different regions, which can attract investment and generate jobs.

The question remains: how can these road improvements impact the economy of Paraná and Brazil in general?

Certainly, a scenario of roads in good condition can be a competitive advantage for the state.
