Imagine going out for a simple expedition exploration and, when digging in the earth, discover a priceless treasure. During an exploration carried out by the Polish Association of Treasure Hunters “Husaria”, they unearthed 17 rare coins, valued at more than $120.000. It turned out that the purpose of the mission was to find an ancient route commercial Roman, but destiny had other plans!
The treasure found
These coins, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, are not only of great material value, but also a window into Europe's turbulent past.

Among the deaths were specimens from Saxony, Brandenburg and the Spanish Netherlands, dating back to the period of the Thirty Years' War.
Among them, a thaler of Sigismund III Vasa, minted in Toruń, Poland, attracted attention, as a similar one was recently auctioned for approximately $20.000.
The historical importance of the discovery
The discovery was so significant that archaeologist Piotr Duda described it as one of the largest ever made in Poland, especially in the Mazovia region.
He commented on the historical impact of the coins, highlighting that deposits from this period are rare. “In recent years, deposits of coins from various periods have been found, but not from the 16th and 17th centuries. The historical value is indescribable,” said Duda.
The coins belong to a turbulent period in European history, marked by the Thirty Years' War and the struggle between powers such as Poland, Saxony and the Netherlands.
An interesting theory, put forward by Duda, suggests that the treasure could have been buried by someone who took part in the Battle of Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki in 1655, when the Swedes faced off against Polish forces.
Another possibility is that a wealthy merchant hid his riches in an attempt to screen them from looters.
The mystery behind the treasure
The value of the treasure is impressive, but perhaps the most fascinating aspect of this story is the mystery that still surrounds the origin of the coins. Why were they buried there? Who is hiding? What happened to the person who left them behind?
The future of currencies
The discovery of the rare coins will now be detailed to the Conservator of Monuments of the Masovian Voivodeship, but many are advocating for the treasure to be displayed to the public.
The Triglav Association, for example, proposed that the coins be displayed in museums such as the September Campaign Museum or the Modlin Fortress Museum, so that everyone could appreciate their fascinating history.
This story is not just about a treasure found, but also about the importance of preserving history and the memory of past events.
