The decrease in prices occurred after the announcement that Petrobras would be carrying out a new readjustment in August for “domestic price control”. According to Petrobras, the readjustment took place only internally and on a national scale, as they are trying not to pass on the value of gasoline and diesel to the final consumer. The increase, according to the state-owned company, seen over the last two years, was due to the exponential increase in oil barrel prices, optimized due to the war that happened between Russia and Ukraine.
The war between Russia and Ukraine caused the prices of a barrel of oil, as well as other commodities, such as lithium, had a strong shot, impacting global inflation and helping IPCA indices in Brazil to be around double digits, despite showing improvements in recent months, such as biggest deflation seen since 1998, even before the Workers' Party, PT, administered the country.
