Horwin invests BRL 100 million to inaugurate its first electric motorcycle factory in Manaus

With the high investment in the assembly line in Manaus, electric motorcycles will also gain innovative batteries, with a system being developed in Brazil by CBMM.      

Horwin, an electric motorcycle manufacturer from China that has been operating in Brazil since 2021, announced on Thursday (7) that it is making a major investment to soon open its new assembly line in Manaus, in the Amazon. With an initial investment of BRL 100 million, it will now be possible to create an exclusive assembly line, under the CKD regime in Brazil, allowing the company to expand all its sales and advertising in the country. In addition to the large investment, there is also the lithium ion battery technology with niobium in the composition, which is being developed by CBMM and by Toshiba, in a partnership signed with Horwin, will enable the company to sell more than 100.000 electric motorcycles in Brazil by mid-2024.

Horwin CR6 will be the star of the assembly line in Manaus

According to data revealed on Horwin's schedule, the battery-powered prototype that has niobium in its composition, which is already being developed in the country, will finally be presented in the first half of 2022.

One of the Horwin CR6 units, which is equipped with a 6.200W motor and can reach up to 150 km of pure autonomy, will be the first Electric motorcycle to receive the new niobium battery still in this initial phase of development.

The main advantages announced about this lithium ion battery, which has niobium in its composition, are related to the recharge capacity, considered ultra-fast, which occurs in less than 10 minutes in a compatible charger, without degradation of the accumulator. In addition, a cell of this type delivers much more safety and greater durability compared to traditional batteries.

According to the CEO of Horwin in Brazil, Priscila Favero, the cost of electric motorcycles should remain at the same level as current prices, even with the adoption of niobium batteries.

Thus, in this way, the estimate is that electric motorcycles cost around R$ 43.000. But this is actually only possible due to the nationalization of the assembly of electric motorcycles, among other cost reductions inherent to the issue of the production process.
