Specifically, the Brazilian hydroelectric company is looking to develop a smart hybrid generation system with optimized performance and production of wind and solar energy, says Research Manager, Development and Innovation Consulting (AEP) by Chef Jose Bione.

The wind and solar power plant will be installed in the municipality of Casa Nova, in Bahia. It will consist of a wind power plant, which will operate under normal conditions, and a photovoltaic park (PV) with an integrated energy storage system.

Hydroelectric company Chesf also hopes that the new configuration of the hybrid plant will allow the company to carry out an effective performance study of energy storage systems over long periods, he noted.

About the São Francisco Hydroelectric Company (Chesf)

The São Francisco Hydroelectric Company (Chesf) is the largest electricity generator in the country and one of the most important companies in the Northeast. The São Francisco Hydroelectric Company (Chesf) is the largest electricity generator in the country and one of the most important companies in the Northeast.

Headquartered in Recife, the state-owned company is part of Eletrobras, the federal government, which also owns other companies in the electricity sector, such as: Furnas, Eletronuclear, Eletronorte, Eletrosul, etc. Chesf generates energy, transmits it on high voltage transmission lines and sells this asset that is so fundamental to the well-being of modern life.

Chesf's installed generation capacity is 10,3 megawatts (MW) of energy. The installed capacity is how much the company could generate if conditions were ideal. Generally, production is lower than the installed capacity because to generate in its hydroelectric plants, Chesf uses water from the São Francisco River.

In recent years, the company has reduced energy production to preserve water, mainly in the Sobradinho reservoir, in Bahia. For example, the Northeast consumes, on average, more than 11 thousand average MW. Average MW is used to indicate consumption.
