The FPSO platform will be Petrobras' newest bet for production in the Brazilian pre-salt region. With authorization from Ibama, Admiral Barroso can now start activities in the Campo de Búzios region.
Last Tuesday (11/04), the state oil company Petrobras reached another important milestone for its operations in the Santos Basin pre-salt layer. The Brazilian Institute of the Environment (Ibama) authorized the company to start operations on the FPSO Almirante Barroso, moored in the Campo de Búzios region. The production license is valid for 8 years, ensuring an optimal period for fuel exploration in the area.
Petrobras advances in the Santos Basin pre-salt exploration campaign with new authorization from Ibama to put the FPSO Almirante Barroso into operation
Petrobras received authorization from Ibama to start operations on the FPSO Almirante Barroso in Campo de Búzios, in the Santos Basin.
The platform vessel was converted from the hull of the oil tanker Eddie, in China, and underwent commissioning activities at the BrasFELS shipyard, in Angra dos Reis (RJ).

Now, with the authorization to start activities granted by Ibama, the state-owned oil company will be able to advance in its pre-salt exploration campaign in the region.
With the capacity to produce 150 barrels of oil per day and process 6 million m³ of gas per day, the FPSO Almirante Barroso will be connected to ten wells, which will form the 5th production module of the Búzios Field.
The platform also has a water injection capacity of 220 barrels of water per day, ensuring even more efficiency in its activities.
The FPSO Almirante Barroso was named after the leading commander of the Naval Battle of Riachuelo, on the Paraná River, in 1865.
As for its construction, the Japanese shipyard Modec was responsible for the project, and will also be responsible for operating the platform.
The Búzios field produces around 600 barrels of oil and 23 million m³ of natural gas daily.
With the entry into operation of the FPSO Almirante Barroso after IBAMA's authorization, the field should reach 33% of the oil company's total production in 2026.
According to information released by the company, the operating license granted by Ibama is valid for 8 years.
Start of production at FPSO Almirante Barroso marks a great moment for pre-salt exploration in Campo de Búzios
The entry into operation of the FPSO Almirante Barroso represents a major step forward for the Brazilian oil industry and for Petrobras itself.
Campo de Búzios is considered one of the largest oil fields in deep waters in the world and the production of FPSO Almirante Barroso will be essential for maintaining and increasing national production of oil and gas.
In addition, the use of state-of-the-art technology and concern for environmental preservation are hallmarks of this project.
Petrobras has been investing more and more in exploring the Brazilian pre-salt and the FPSO Almirante Barroso is an example of this. With Ibama's authorization and its entry into operation, the Búzios Field will become even more important for the country's oil and gas production.
