A turnaround in Russian exports could shake up Brazil's fuel economy.
Russia's recent maneuvers in diesel exports are likely to cause tremors in the Brazilian fuel market. When it comes to supplying Brazil with diesel, Russia is a major player, meeting a large portion of national demand.
Understanding market dynamics
Helmuth Hofstatter, the visionary behind Logcomex, an innovative technology company focused on foreign trade, provides a clear view of the situation. By providing end-to-end solutions, Logcomex specializes in helping companies optimize their supply chain. According to Hofstatter, 74% of diesel arriving in Brazil is of Russian origin. Therefore, any fluctuation in Russia's diesel supply has the potential to cause significant ripples in the Brazilian market.

“The recent Russian suspension puts the spotlight on other major suppliers, such as the United States and the United Arab Emirates. However, these alternatives could come at a higher cost, placing additional pressure on the Brazilian economy”, analyzes Hofstatter.
He also notes that Russia, realizing the increase in Brazilian demand, adopted a strategy of raising fuel prices. The good news, however, is that Hofstatter does not foresee a shortage. “We can, however, expect some price adjustments,” he warns.
The numbers speak for themselves. When looking at Brazil's import statistics from Russia, Paraná tops the list, followed closely by Amapá and São Paulo. And these numbers are courtesy of Logcomex itself.
