On strike for seven days, workers at the Jurong Aracruz Shipbuilding Shipyard (EJA) continue to block the company's entrance on the ES-010 highway, in the town of Barra do Riacho. According to the executive director of the Metalworkers Union of Espírito Santo, Roberto Pereira de Souza, he said that the company has not yet presented a proposal to the workers. “While there is no proposal, we are doing everything we can to remain still. We are here at the door waiting for a proposal to be presented to the workers,” he explained.

Strike is a reflection of workers' dissatisfaction

The EJA employees are claiming the salary readjustment for the period's inflation, of 10,42%, plus another 5%; that the food ticket goes from the current R$ 520,00 to R$ 800,00 reais; that the company assumes 70% of the operational cost of the health plan and its annual readjustment, in addition to the company's PLR, Profit Sharing, in the amount of R$ 3 thousand reais per employee.

In an interview with Rede Nova Onda last Wednesday (15), the executive director of Sindimetal-ES, Roberto Pereira de Souza, spoke about the blockades carried out last Wednesday.

“It is a movement made by the direct employees of the Jurong shipyard, who can no longer tolerate this Singapore policy, which they are trying to force down the throats of the workers. They can't take so many low wages anymore. They decided to cross their arms and closed two parts of the ES-010 Highway, ”he said.

The director of Sindimetal also highlighted that the high adherence to the strike movement is a reflection of the workers' dissatisfaction.

Outsourced workers are prevented from working

“Employees of contractors were also paralyzed and are going through a complicated situation. They leave the house very early, at 4 am, at Jurong's own request, so they can do the job that would be her direct employee, who are on strike, "she added.

“They are angry. More than 90% of the direct workers of the EJA are stopped, which is a novelty for large companies. It is a demonstration of the high level of dissatisfaction of the shipyard's employees”, he stressed.

According to unofficial information, the company should ask for collective bargaining. Collective bargaining agreements are actions filed in the Labor Court to resolve conflicts between the collective parties that make up an employment relationship.
