Ricardo Alban defended Neoindustrialization in Brazil as an instrument to revitalize the manufacturing sector during B20 Brazil in Rio de Janeiro.

A industrial policy is the result of a constructive dialogue between public authorities and private initiative, and contains a set of actions capable of accelerating neo-industrialization. According to the president of the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), Ricardo Alban, the New Industry Brazil, presented by the government on January 22, represents a consistent plan of actions to encourage productivity, innovation and the insertion of Brazilian industry in global value chains.

A policy for industry development demonstrates a solid commitment to the advancement of the industrial sector, aiming at Brazil's modernization and competitiveness in the global market. The strategy for the development of the industry seeks to make the country an important player in the world economy, with investment in innovation and technology.

Industrial Policy at the center of discussions in Rio de Janeiro

The defense of the new industrial policy was made in opening of the Opening Meeting, this Monday (29), in Rio de Janeiro. The event marks the beginning of the work agenda of the B20 Brazil, a group that brings together business entities from the 19 largest economies in the world, plus the European Union – the G20.

'We need to gain competitive advantages for our industries. Let's decarbonize our industry to recover our manufacture, to add value and quality jobs. The B20 and G20 give us this opportunity to work together towards these goals,' said Alban.

The president of the CNI highlighted the relevance of More Production Plan, which will have credit lines worth R$300 billion. The resources will be allocated to projects under four transversal themes: innovation, productivity, decarbonization and exports, through the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES). 'We have a thriving industry that serves as the basis for agribusiness because there were resources and an environment for it to grow and succeed. We have a convergence of factors now for the industry sector as a whole,' he stated.

The importance of policies for industry development

Vice-president and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC), Geraldo Alckmin drew attention to the convergence between the pillars that will guide the work of the B20 and global challenges. 'Brazil can make all the difference at this moment, post-pandemic, high inflation and war. Food security, energy security, the climate agenda are topics in which Brazil is a protagonist and to which we can make great contributions to the world,' he said.

The president of BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante, analyzed the impact of industrial policy measures adopted by developed economies, which hold more than 70% of the planet's industrial production. According to him, much of it impacts multilateral trade, which requires the Southern Hemisphere to seek to defend its economies, especially its industries. 'We are taking measures, and we need this, of a fiscally responsible economic policy, but one that defends industry, the productive sector, which is the most dynamic and most important sector, in addition to attracting this international industrial complex', he defended.

Follow the work agenda and initiatives for the development of the industry

Since December 1st, Brazil has held the rotating presidencies of groups that bring together governments and private sector of the largest economies in the world. In the case of B20 Brazil, the CNI is responsible for coordinating the work of debates between business entities – which should bring together more than 1 business leaders – in the construction of proposals within seven task forces and the action council, which will be delivered at the summit of heads of state from the G20, scheduled to take place in November.

Leader of B20 Brazil, Dan Ioschpe highlighted that the private sector engagement group will play a fundamental role in accelerating a socioeconomic development agenda in partnership with governments, both for Brazil and the rest of the world. 'Current economic, geopolitical, social, health and health security challenges demand rapid and globally coordinated actions. Although the G20 brings together very heterogeneous countries, this diversity represents great opportunity,' he stated.

Alban drew attention to the harmony between the work guideline of B20 Brazil, under the motto 'Inclusive growth for a sustainable future', with the objectives of the G20 presidency by the Brazilian government. 'It's a unique opportunity for us to show the world the potential of our companies and the country. Due to their global relevance, the actions of the G20 and B20 are essential to overcome the challenges of climate change, geopolitical conflicts and social inequalities', reinforced the president of the CNI.
