UFPA project transforms Amazonian waste into clean fuels, standing out at COP-30 as an example of sustainability!
O Para is preparing to stand out in COP-30, the world climate conference that will take place in Belém in November 2025. One of the main focuses of the event will be the innovation in the production of biofuels and sustainable asphalt, using Amazonian waste, such as seeds açaí e tucuma. This initiative not only reflects the search for sustainable solutions, but also positions the region as a hub of innovation in the energy sector.
UFPA research leads sustainable transformation
The research is being conducted by Federal University of Pará (UFPA), in collaboration with several Brazilian institutions.
The project, called Sustenbioenergy/CNPq, is in the final phase of development and aims to transform residual biomass into green gasoline, aviation kerosene e bioasphalt.

These products are especially relevant in a context where demand for alternatives to fossil fuels is growing, and their environmental impact is considerably lower.
Clean technology with global impact
According to a Nelio Teixeira Machado, researcher and professor at UFPA, “what we produce is a green petrochemicals, as we only use waste, without deforestation.”
This approach is fundamental, since the traditional petrochemical industry is one of the main contributors to greenhouse gas emissions.
Using waste from the Amazon not only reduces waste, but also promotes a circular economy that can be replicated in other parts of the world.
Studies show that converting biomass into biofuels can reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% when compared to fossil fuels.
Attracting investments to expand the project
The initiative aims to attract investments for the implementation of the prototype in isolated communities and in the Metropolitan Region of BelémUsing Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs).
The project has already shown economic viability, with competitive potential in the global clean energy market.
The implementation of this prototype will not only benefit the local economy, but could also provide new employment opportunities in areas such as research, development and production.
COP-30 as a platform for international visibility
With COP-30 serving as an international showcase, the Para positions itself as a leader in innovation sustainable, harnessing the wealth of the Amazon to shape the future of energy.
The expectation is that the presentation of this technology at the conference will not only promote strategic partnerships, but also expand the adoption of biofuels and ecological materials in industry.
The event will be a unique opportunity for the state to showcase its initiatives and attract global attention to its sustainable practices.
The role of biofuels in the energy transition
Biofuels, such as those being developed in Pará, play a crucial role in the global energy transition.
With increasing pressure to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and mitigate climate change, demand for renewable alternatives is on the rise.
Furthermore, the use of agricultural and forestry waste as raw material for biofuels not only contributes to reducing emissions, but also to adding value to products that would otherwise be discarded.
Impact on the local community
In addition to the environmental and economic benefits, the project also has a significant social impact.
Implementing sustainable technologies in isolated communities can improve quality of life by providing access to clean energy and reducing fossil fuel costs.
Training the local population in sustainable practices and green technologies can generate a multiplier effect, encouraging the development of new local initiatives and businesses.
With this focus, Pará is preparing to lead the transition to a more sustainable economy, using its resources in an intelligent and innovative way.
The transformation of açaí and tucumã into biofuels and sustainable asphalt is not only a contribution to environmental preservation, but also an opportunity for economic growth and attracting investment to the region.
As the world seeks more sustainable solutions, initiatives like this can become models to be followed in other parts of Brazil and the world.
