Petrobras president, Jean Paul Prates, demands inspection of gas stations that charge more than R$ 6 per liter, exceeding the readjustment of the state-owned company.
In the midst of growing consumer concern about the fuel prices, the president of Petrobras, Jean Paul Prates, raises the flag of strict inspection at gas stations that exceed the mark of R$ 6 per liter of gasoline, after the last readjustment announced by the state-owned company. Prates, in a move to ensure transparency in pricing practices, spoke out about the alarming prices recorded in some parts of Rio de Janeiro, which exceeded Petrobras' own estimates.

With the recent readjustment in fuel prices, the national average for gasoline jumped from R$5,53 to R$5,83 per liter.
While in Rio de Janeiro, this average reached R$ 6, exceeding the projections of the state-owned company.

Prates, emphasizing Petrobras' commitment to fuel accessibility, said that prices are expected to remain below R$6 per liter, both nationally and in Rio.
Em release issued on Tuesday, (15/08), Petrobras communicated to the distributors the readjustment in the prices of gasoline and diesel.
It is worth noting that, although the state-owned company has the autonomy to implement such changes, gas stations are also free to pass on these readjustments to consumers.
In this context, Prates urged the authorities to intensify inspections at stations that apply excessive prices, in order to protect the interests of consumers.
Petrobras readjustment and the challenges of the fuel market in Brazil
The justification for the readjustments, according to Petrobras, is related to the balance between oil prices in the international market and complementary imports of gasoline and diesel.
With the volatility of oil prices, the refineries of the state-owned company had to adjust their prices according to changes in the global market, which directly impacted importers and private refineries in the country.
In this way, Petrobras aims to maintain prices at levels that allow for the sustainability of imports from third parties.
The implementation of the commercial strategy, which abandoned import parity, was highlighted by Petrobras as a response to the demands of the market and society, incorporating parameters that reflect optimizations in refining and logistics.
Experts point out that, although the readjustment has reduced the lag for importers, it has not yet been completely eliminated.
The president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, expressed his support for the readjustment, emphasizing the importance of keeping prices in line and minimizing inflationary impacts in 2023.
Prates and his team remain committed to ensuring that the fuel market operates in a transparent and fair manner for all involved, while reiterating their commitment to closely monitor prices at gas stations across the country.
