The company is producing Renewable Diesel from the co-processing of petroleum with materials of renewable origin. Petrobras' objective is to intensify operations at the Repar refinery.

Petrobras continues with the production of Renewable Diesel, or Diesel R, at the Presidente Getúlio Vargas Refinery (Repar), in Paraná. It reached the mark of 5,8 million liters of diesel with 5% renewable content during the month of April. The goal is to make these numbers even more expressive over the coming months. Diesel production is part of the BioRefining Program of the state-owned company, which plans to boost undertakings aimed at biofuels in the domestic market over the next few years.

Petrobras reaches the mark of 5,8 million liters of Renewable Diesel at the Repar refinery and expands its investments in the product

One of Petrobras' main bets for the national biofuel market, the Renewable Diesel produced at Repar is the result of the co-processing of petroleum derivatives with material of renewable origin.

Thus, the company has been implementing about 5% of renewable content in the production of fuel and, in April, reached the mark of 5,8 million liters of the product.

This was the first fuel launched by the company's BioRefining program, which currently focuses on the energy transition of the Brazilian market for the coming years.

The main goal of the Petrobras project is to reach the year 2027 with a production of 10,6 billion liters per year. Thus, it is projecting investments of US$ 600 million to achieve the desired results.

The expressive numbers of Renewable Diesel production at the Repar refinery demonstrate the company's focus on intensifying the segment.

According to Petrobras data, the April production of fuel at the Paraná refinery is enough to supply the tank of up to 19.300 conventional buses.

In addition, the 5,8 million liters of Renewable Diesel can generate an emission reduction of up to 610 million tons of greenhouse gases.

“In addition to the environmental benefit, Diesel R can be mixed with conventional diesel in different proportions, without the need for adaptations in vehicle engines, without requiring alterations or changes in the logistics chain or in its storage. It is a product with high stability and free of contaminants, which guarantees durability and engine performance”, highlighted Petrobras.

In its Strategic Plan 2023 – 2027, the state-owned company is considering reaching six times the production of Renewable Diesel

Petrobras has optimistic projections about the production of Renewable Diesel after the first results at the Repar refinery.

The company's objective is to multiply by up to six times the production capacity in its current Strategic Plan, which will continue until the year 2027.

The oil company's strategy is to take fuel production to other refineries, as currently only Repar carries out production, with a processing capacity of up to 1,6 billion liters per year.

By the month of December, that number should reach 4 billion liters, according to the company's planning.

Petrobras plans to start production of Renewable Diesel already at the Cubatão Refinery (RPBC), in São Paulo, with a potential of up to 700 million euros per year.

Petrobras' Commercialization and Logistics director, Claudio Romeo Schlosser, reinforced the company's investments in improving its fuel production.

He recalled that the company was the first in the country to develop its own co-processing technology, and is now investing in expanding the segment.

Thus, with the results of the Repar refinery and the projections for the others, Petrobras puts Renewable Diesel in the spotlight of the national market.
