Ipem-SP launches system to identify fuel pumps with anti-fraud technology at gas stations in the state. The tool allows consumers to check gas stations that are inspected and certified against fuel fraud.
The Weights and Measures Institute of the State of São Paulo (Ipem-SP) has launched a new online system that allows consumers to locate fuel pumps with anti-fraud certification. The measure aims to increase security in fuel transactions and reduce cases of fuel fraud, in which the volume delivered does not correspond to the amount paid.
The tool is available on the official Ipem-SP website and already has updated data on gas stations that have at least one pump equipped with the so-called anti-fraud technology. The query can be made by any citizen and is regularly updated by the institute.
Protection against fuel scam
Pumps with anti-fraud technology follow the Technical Metrological Regulation No. 227/2022, from Inmetro, and are designed to prevent unauthorized changes in the volume of fuel supplied. According to Ipem-SP, the devices ensure greater precision in supply and transparency in consumer relations.

Currently, the system panel indicates the presence of 341 electronic anti-fraud bombs installed in 137 gas stations in the state of São Paulo. However, not all municipalities have certified pumps, and some have not yet been validated by the institute.
Public consultation and facilitated access
The new system was developed to be easy to access and use. On the Ipem-SP portal, consumers can filter results by municipality and see which stations have at least one pump with anti-fraud certification. The database will be constantly updated as new inspections are carried out and new equipment is approved.
According to Ipem-SP, the objective is increase transparency in the fuel sector, offering the public the possibility of choosing establishments that have already undergone inspections and are in accordance with established technical standards.
Reliability and security of supply
According to the institute, certified equipment is more difficult to tamper with and significantly reduces the risk of the consumer receiving less fuel than indicated on the pump. The irregular practice, known as the fuel scam, is a recurring target of complaints and inspection actions throughout the country.
“These pumps feature technology that prevents metrological fraud, ensuring greater precision in supply and transparency for the consumer. In addition, they follow strict quality standards, offering greater safety and reliability,” Ipem-SP reported in an official statement.
Continuous monitoring and technological advancement
Ipem-SP acts as the Inmetro delegate body in the state of São Paulo and is responsible for carrying out metrological verification of measuring instruments used in commerce, including fuel metering pumps. The adoption of anti-fraud technology is a response to the constant cases of tampering and manipulation of equipment at gas stations.
Pump inspections are carried out periodically and follow strict technical criteria. The new system expands this control by providing transparency to consumers, who now have direct access to inspection information.
How to use the system
To access the panel, the user must enter the Ipem-SP portal (www.ipem.sp.gov.br) and search for the section pumps with anti-fraud technology. The interface displays a list of stations by city, with the address and number of certified pumps in each location.
The consultation is free and does not require registration. According to the institute, the system is updated as new pumps undergo inspection and receive the seal of conformity.
Gradual expansion across the state
The number of pumps with anti-fraud technology is still small in relation to the total equipment in operation in the state of São Paulo. However, Ipem-SP states that the trend is for progressive growth in adoption, both due to regulatory requirements and consumer pressure for more security and transparency.
The inspection is part of a joint effort between state and federal agencies to combat unfair practices in the sector and ensure that consumers receive exactly what they are paying for when refueling.
