“Each plant buys around R$600 million to R$800 million per year,” explained Freitas. The economic impact is evident, especially considering that Samarco's four plants in Anchieta were inactive between 2015 and 2020 due to the collapse of the dam in Mariana, Minas Gerais.
Samarco began resuming operations in December 2020, operating at 26% of its capacity.
Since then, the company has gradually expanded its production, using new technologies and a dry filtration system, without disposing of tailings in dams. Currently, the company operates at 30% of total capacity.

With the reopening of the second plant, Samarco plans to reach 60% of its production capacity.
This advancement is an important step in the company's business plan, which aims to reach 100% capacity by 2028.
To achieve this goal, Samarco is investing R$1,6 billion, which will allow it to increase production to approximately 15 million tons per year.

Generation of job vacancies
Samarco's expansion will have a direct impact on job creation. Currently, the company has around 3.880 direct and contract employees in Espírito Santo.
With the resumption of the second plant and the expansion of operations, Samarco plans to create up to 3 new jobs, 600 of which will be direct.
Hiring has been ongoing since 2024, with priority given to former employees of the company.
The company is also focused on recruiting residents of neighboring communities and people from minority groups, such as women, people with disabilities, black people and LGBTI+. This approach aims to promote inclusion and diversity in the workplace.
Training and inclusion programs at the Samarco plant
In addition to creating direct vacancies, Samarco is investing in training programs to prepare the local workforce.
One example is the ongoing training program in communities close to the company's operations, both in Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo.
