The P-83 platform, one of the largest operating in Brazil and in the global oil and gas industry, will be the eleventh unit to be installed in Búzios

Good news for shipbuilding in Brazil. The Brazilian oil giant Petrobras signed yesterday (28/09), with Keppel Shipyard, the contract for the construction of P-83, one of the largest platforms to operate in Brazil and in the world oil industry, located in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin, the future largest oil producer in Brazil by 2030, with production of up to 2 million barrels of oil per day (bpd)!

In addition, P-83, which will be the eleventh unit to be installed in Búzios, promises to produce up to 225 bpd of oil and 12 million m³ of gas per day, and will have a storage capacity greater than 1,6 million barrels .

Petrobras is the operator of this field with a 92,6% stake, with CNOOC and CNODC as partners, with 3,7% each.

Construction of the P-83 will take place at shipyards in Singapore, China and Brazil

According to the Petrobras report, the construction of the P-83 will be carried out in shipyards in Singapore, China and Brazil, and will reach a percentage of local content of 25%. Its production is scheduled for 2027 and will help expand the field's installed capacity, from the current 600 bpd to 2 million bpd.

P-83 represents the so-called "New Generation" of Petrobras platforms, which will have high production capacity and technologies to reduce carbon emissions, where it will use, for example, the so-called closed flare technology, which increases the use of gas and prevents it from being burned into the atmosphere in a safe and sustainable way.

In addition, the platform will use a methane gas detection system, capable of preventing or mitigating the risk of leaks of this compound, not counting the CO2 Capture, Use and Geological Storage technology – the so-called CCUS. Petrobras is a pioneer in the use of this technology, which makes it possible to combine increased productivity with reduced carbon emissions.

The P-83 will also be equipped with the technology of "digital twins" – or digital twins – consisting of a virtual reproduction of the platform, allowing several remote simulations and operational tests, ensuring safety and reliability.
