An agreement between the Federal Government and the offshore operator had been reached for the payment of fines related to the corruption scandal in Operation Lava Jato. Keppel Offshore announced full payment of US$ 65 million due to the case with Petrobras.

Following a leniency agreement entered into with the Federal Government in December 2022, Keppel Offshore announced this Tuesday, (31/01), the settlement of its fines with the Brazilian State. The company had been involved in corruption lawsuits involving Petrobras and a former agent of the company in Operation Lava Jato. She pledged to collaborate throughout the process to ensure its integrity.

Payment of US$ 65 million to the National Government settles Keppel Offshore's fines for corruption cases involving Petrobras and Operation Lava Jato

Singaporean offshore oil rig builder Keppel Offshore & Marine said on Monday it has made full payment of fines and damages worth around $65 million to the Federal Government.

The payment of the amount takes place under a leniency agreement signed with the Attorney General's Office and the Comptroller General's Office in December 2022.

The amount was agreed due to the corruption cases involving the company and Petrobras at the time of Operation Lava Jato.

It was found that a former Keppel Offshore agent made corrupt payments to the state-owned company to secure contracts in the national oil and gas market.

Under the leniency agreement, Keppel O&M undertook to pay fines and damages in the total amount of R$343.571.455,25 (approximately US$65 million).

Now, with the full payment of the amount to the Government, the offshore operator leaves the fines for corruption involving Petrobras in the past.

In its statement, Keppel Offshore highlighted: “The company wishes to update that the [Singapore] Attorney General’s Chambers and the Bureau of Investigation of Corrupt Practices have confirmed that Keppel O&M can avail itself of the credit of up to US$52.777.122,50 .XNUMX in accordance with the terms of the conditional notice in relation to the fines payable by Keppel O&M to the Brazilian authorities, and that Keppel O&M has made full payment of the fines and damages due under the leniency agreement”.

In the process of merging with Sembcorp Marine, Keppel Offshore reinforces its ethical principles after payment of fines from Operation Lava Jato to the Federal Government

Keppel Offshore collaborated with the Brazilian Government and with the Attorney General's Office and the Comptroller General's Office throughout the process of prosecuting Petrobras for corruption in Operation Lava Jato.

During its press release, the company highlighted that it reinforces its ethical principles after paying off its debt with the Union.

“Keppel remains committed to maintaining high ethical standards and robust controls across all of its global operations,” she said.

Since December 2017, the company has been working with criminal authorities in Brazil, Singapore and the United States regarding corrupt payments made by Zwi Skornicki, its former agent in Brazil.

The company is currently moving towards a merger with Sembcorp Marine after shareholders agreed to the deal last December.

Now, with the payment of the fines to the National Government, Keppel Offshore hopes to leave the involvement of its former agent in Operation Lava Jato with the state company Petrobras in the past.
