The new electric car announced by Lamborghini will only be launched in 2028, but preparations for the launch of the model are in full swing
Lamborghini, the renowned supercar maker, has confirmed its plans to enter the electric vehicle market. The brand's long-awaited first electric car is scheduled for launch in 2028. The company announced that this new model will be a four-seat coupe, marking a significant departure from its traditional sports cars, according to the website Motor Uol.
Unlike many other manufacturers that chose to launch electric SUVs as their first forays into the electric segment, Lamborghini chose a four-seat coupe for its debut. The intention is to create an electric vehicle that is practical for everyday use, while maintaining the brand's high-performance and sporty DNA.
Details still under wraps
Despite the announcement, Lamborghini has yet to reveal many details about the new electric model. The company's CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, previously mentioned that the vehicle will have a ground clearance intermediate between traditional sports cars and the brand's SUVs, such as the Urus. This choice aims to offer a balance between sporty handling and everyday usability.

Winkelmann also highlighted that the new electric car will not be developed on an entirely new Lamborghini platform. The manufacturer plans to take advantage of synergies within the Volkswagen Group, its parent company, to develop the vehicle. This platform sharing strategy is already seen in the Urus SUV, which shares its base with other models in the group.
Path to electrification
Lamborghini is on a path of gradual electrification. Before the launch of the electric car in 2028, the manufacturer plans to introduce plug-in hybrid versions in models such as the Huracan and Urus. These versions would combine electric motors with combustion engines to improve efficiency and performance.
However, the commitment to electrification does not stop there. In 2029, it is planned to launch a successor totally electric for the Urus, Lamborghini's SUV. The company is focused on finding the balance between embracing green technology and maintaining the emotional and exhilarating experience its cars provide.
Expectation and preparations
Lamborghini enthusiasts are eager to see how the brand will incorporate its distinctive style and remarkable performance into an electric vehicle. With the global automotive market rapidly moving towards electrification, Lamborghini appears to be solidly preparing to meet the challenges and opportunities this transition brings with it. Meanwhile, car enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the launch of the iconic supercar maker's first electric car.
