SUV worth R$40 in 2024? Meet the 2 Land Rover Freelander 2009 SE, a luxury SUV that delivers great performance figures. Find out everything about the model and whether it's still worth buying in 2024.

When it arrived in Brazil in 2007, the second generation of the Land Rover Freelander II represented a significant leap forward compared to its predecessor. With a completely renewed design and substantial engineering improvements, the model established itself as a milestone in the brand's evolution. In this article, we will explore in detail the Land Rover Freelander 2 SE 2009, an SUV that, even with affordable prices today, around 40 thousand reais, continues to attract attention for its robust construction, refined performance and striking presence.

The 2 Freelander 2009 SE was more than just an SUV, standing out for its increased dimensions: longer, wider and taller than the first generation, providing more comfort and interior space.

What has changed in the 2 Land Rover Freelander 2009 SE?

The biggest new feature of the R$40 SUV was the 3.2-liter inline six-cylinder aluminum engine. In addition to the 24 valves, it had an intake manifold and variable valve timing, ensuring unparalleled flexibility. Despite having 233 hp at 6.300 RPM, the torque of 32,3 kgfm appeared at 3.200 RPM, with 80% available at 1.400 RPM.

The result was good performance in the city and highway, despite its 1.770 kg, which is also aided by the six-speed automatic transmission and the Terrain Response All-Wheel Drive, with four settings (asphalt, grass/gravel/snow, mud and sand).

The 2 Land Rover Freelander 2009 SE's off-road capability was superior to rivals such as the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, all in the S version's price range, which featured dual-zone air conditioning, nine airbags, ABS with EBD, rain and headlight sensors, and traction, stability and body roll controls.

Technologies present in the Land Rover Freelander 2 SE 2009

The 2 Land Rover Freelander 2009 SE featured electric leather seats, Bluetooth, electric folding rearview mirrors and front and rear parking sensors.

The top-of-the-range HSE included a multimedia center, adaptive xenon headlights, a double sunroof and heated seats, for dynamic behavior worthy of a car. All models had independent suspension on all four wheels.

A hit with both the public and critics, the R$40 SUV underwent subtle changes to its design in 2009, with new chrome details, a rear spoiler, and bumpers and side skirts in the same color as the car. The restyling came in the 2011 model year, with changes to the front grille, bumpers, headlights and taillights that were redesigned. In mid-2011, the new 2.2 turbodiesel engine with 190 horsepower and 42,8 kgfm arrived.

Reliable on and off the road, even though it is a 40 thousand reais SUV, the model has a high cost of spare parts, which is the subject of complaints, but compensated by the robustness and long interval between revisions.

Main defects of the Land Rover Freelander 2 SE 2009

Even though it is a 40 thousand reais SUV, it also has defects. In the diesel version, for example, there may be a leak in the crankshaft seal, identified by the presence of oil between the crankcase and the transmission housing. It is also important to make sure that the front seats are firm and without gaps. Depending on the weight of the driver or passenger, they may come loose, becoming a constant source of noise.

When worn, the rear differential bearings produce a roar that disappears above 50 km/h, i.e. the noise becomes apparent on urban routes.

Land Rover recommends replacing the entire differential, which costs R$9.998 plus 4 hours of labor (R$1.080). However, replacing this component puts the hydraulic pump that drives the rear differential at risk. A new pump costs R$2.022 plus R$1.080 for labor.

Explain the consumption that you put in the ad. I don't know of any Freelander that uses more economical gasoline than yours.

The claim that the Freelander is more fuel efficient than stated in the advert may be questioned, as there are a number of factors that influence fuel consumption, such as driving style, vehicle condition and the use of accessories.
