End of 6×1 scale: how is it?

Today, 6×1 scale is a very common practice in several sectors in the country. In this journey, the worker has six days in a row of work, followed by a single day of rest.

For many activities, such as industries, the essential services and maintenance and cleaning, this scale works as a way to ensure continuous operations without stopping the workflow.

But the changes being debated in Congress could mean that this working day model will no longer exist.

The 6×1 scale can be considered tough for those who live a routine of uninterrupted services.

O working time is usually about 7 hours and 30 minutes, which, although it seems reasonable, leaves many professionals with little room for rest.

For some, this system is reminiscent of the past, when long working hours and no rights were the rule.

A proposal for the end of the 6×1 scale has been debated more intensely since the second quarter of 2024, when the Councilman Rick Azevedo, from PSOL/RJ, led the movement called “Life Beyond Work”.

Azevedo considers the scale as an outdated practice and compared the working day with a “form of modern slavery”, claiming that a single day of rest per week is insufficient to guarantee the quality of life of workers.

The movement gained strength with the participation of other politicians, such as Congresswoman Erika Hilton (PSOL/SP), who proposed a public hearing to discuss the end of the 6×1 scale.

The proposal was approved by the Chamber's Labor Committee in April 2024, but the fight continues.

Em November 2024, discussions are more intense, and a project of Proposed Constitutional Amendment (PEC) Discussions are already underway to formalize this change in the Constitution, requiring a significant number of signatures in Congress.

Sectors most affected by the end of the 6×1 scale

The 6×1 scale is most common in industries, markets, restaurants, hotels, pharmacies, manutenção e cleaning.

Professionals in these areas are the most directly impacted by the change, as working hours need to be adjusted so as not to compromise the operation of essential services.

But will all sectors feel the impact of radical change?

A industry and the essential services sector are the most dependent on this working day.

For example, companies of cleaning ou manutenção, which operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, depend on the scalability of this journey to ensure continuous operation.

With elimination of the 6×1 scale, these companies will need to review their work structure and find alternatives that do not overload their employees.

Most benefited professions

With the possible change in the law, service sector workersas the pharmacies, restaurants e supermarkets, may be the first to notice the benefits of this change.

With more free time to dedicate to personal life, quality of life of these professionals tends to improve, allowing them to recover more adequately from the intense workload they face.

Furthermore, the Public sector may also be positively impacted, as several workers linked to government agencies and essential services who operate on a shift basis may benefit from fairer and more balanced working hours.

Challenges for the future of the working day in Brazil

The big question remains: how will Brazil be able to balance the need for continuous operations with the guarantee of more humane labor rights?

According to experts, it will be a challenge for essential service companies to adjust their work routines to meet society's demand for more flexible working hours e worthy.

The PEC that proposes the change of 6×1 scale still needs massive support in Congress, with the collection of 171 signatures in the Chamber of Deputies to move forward.

The expectation is that if the change is approved, affected professions can undergo a restructuring that offers more quality of life to workers, without compromising the continuity of operations in essential services.

Pressure for changes in working hours is only increasing as society debates the issue of work-life balance. If a PEC proposal moving forward, will it be possible to imagine a Brazil with more flexible and fair working hours for workers?

What do you think about the proposal to end the 6x1 scale? Do you believe this change will be beneficial for professionals in Brazil? Leave your opinion in the comments!

Yes, it is a great recognition for the workers, it is even difficult to go to the doctor and even resolve some paperwork, as long as it does not affect the salary. Congratulations to everyone involved.

The idea is as follows: Each worker in their state should seek communication with their federal representative and demand the signature of the PEC that extinguishes the infamous 6×1 scale, for example, here in Pernambuco there are 25 federal deputies. The message that will be published is as follows: Give me our signature on the PEC and I will give you my vote for reelection.

The workday is really tough for the worker. The number of hours worked per day for these workers who do not have weekends off could be reduced. And thus, the protection of the worker's health could be adjusted with dignity.

This law of ending the 6×1 work schedule is very important. Why? The physical, mental and social exhaustion is really intense.

I hope our leaders have the good sense to approve this law. It will benefit thousands of workers who have no time to do anything. They have no social life.

IT WILL BE GREAT, IF IT WORKS, BUT, THIS ALSO AFFECTS THE WORKER'S POCKET, THIS WILL CONTINUE TO EXIST, BUT BEHIND THE SCENES, THE WORKER WHO WANTS TO EARN CLOSE TO WHAT HE ALREADY EARNS, WILL CONTINUE WORKING IN THE SUPPOSED TIME OFF... OF COURSE THE IDEA IS GREAT, BUT THE POINTS HAVE TO BE SEEN AND REVIEWED OVER THE COURSE OF WHAT MAY COME. THAT'S WHAT CAME TO MY THOUGHTS AT FIRST GLANCE...
