Students in the São Paulo Municipal Education Network can take advantage of a unique opportunity of learning foreign languages with the free courses offered by the Paulistano Language Study Centers (CELPs). Located in the 58 CEUs in the capital of São Paulo, the courses last 3 and a half years and are aimed at students from the 4th year of Elementary School to the 3rd year of High School. At the end of each module – basic, intermediate and advanced – participants receive a certificate of completion. Among the languages available are German, Spanish, English, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Chinese.
With more than 8 thousand vacancies available, classes are held in person, with students attending two shifts. In the morning, classes run from 7:9 a.m. to 15:9 a.m. and from 35:11 a.m. to 50:13 a.m. In the afternoon, classes are available from 15:15 p.m. to 15:35 p.m. and from 17:50 p.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. This initiative is managed by the Municipal Department of Education (SME), which seeks to expand access to learning foreign languages and provide cultural and educational qualifications for students in the network.
Partnerships and program results
Since its creation in 2022, CELPs have partnered with consulates and international organizations to train teachers and develop specific curricula for language teaching. In 2024, more than 12 students were served, and in 2025, the goal of the free courses is to further consolidate the offer in all regions of the city. With the recent inclusion of Asian languages, such as Chinese, Korean and Japanese, the City of São Paulo reinforces its commitment to cultural diversity and preparing students for global challenges.

Application Process and Program Benefits
Registration for free courses is done in person at the service desks of the CEU Training Centers. To register, students must present their ID, proof of residence, CPF and registration information with the Municipal Network. Each student can choose to study only one language (German, Spanish, English, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Chinese), according to the offer available at each unit, which can be consulted at Official website of the City of São Paulo.
In addition to classes, students receive exclusive teaching materials and a credit of R$156,60, available in the DUEPAY School Kit app, to purchase school supplies at accredited stores. This support aims to ensure that participants have the necessary resources to follow the course with quality.
I loved the courses. I would like to know if the courses are extended to senior citizens.
Is the course suitable for all ages?
